Duplicate Winners

When I find a dress with sleeves and pockets, I do a little happy dance. This is the perfect dress for lounging at home in the summer, running a quick errand in the city, or relaxing on vacation at the beach. I have similar dresses in other colors, and nothing is more comfortable. If something wins me over, I may purchase several colors of the same item or style.

Wear a crossbody bag to “cut” the width of a boxy tunic or dress. Remember to keep it on the front of your hip to avoid drawing attention to the bust.

The dress is here. Another winner is the bag here. I also have the same bag in black because it is the perfect size and shape for hands-free shopping. Similar shoes are here. My lip color is Girls’ Night here. The earrings are here. (Use the code SAS10 for $10 off any one item at Beauty in Stone Jewelry.)

I continue to enjoy tomatoes from the garden as often as possible, so it was bruschetta for date night again. I also made Mr. Mickey’s favorite deviled eggs, served with red pepper slices and herbed onion cheese dip.

The bruschetta recipe I have used all summer is here.

  1. Hi Susan
You look so lovely in this dress! You have made the dress look more special than the model on the website.
Did you escape the storms yesterday as it looked horrid on our news.

  2. The dress looks great on you and the color is summery fun. You may have answered this question in the past…do you wear a half slip under dresses?

  3. I love bruschetta! Can hardly wait to try the recipe.
Thank you for showing the light and tasty meals you put together. So many years of family cooking have made me think all meals have to be big affairs. Now that my husband and I are older, we sure don’t need the same kind of meals. I like how yours are nutritious, attractive and light. Wrapping my head around a change!

  4. I saw that dress online and went to my local store for it but found it very see through. Do you wear a slip with it?

  5. Is your lip color twilight light berry? As usual you look stunning, I always admired your hair style and color.

  6. I think the red dress looks SO much better on you than it does the model. (When I clicked on the shopping link.) I still love your new hairstyle too!

  7. I opened my inbox and was sooo relieved to see Susanafter60, , as we are seeing here in U.K. horrific scenes of flood devastation in Tennessee. Glad you and Mr Mickey are safe . Thank you for continuing to inspire and cheer with your blog, I for one enjoy all the content, be it fashion, food for your date nights with Mr Mickey, also your fab travels in Tennessee and wonderful eateries etc etc,
On a negative note, I can’t say I love your dress, the colour and shape somehow doesn’t seem you, I think a more fitting wrap style suits you better . One of your posts some time ago you wore a gorgeous turquoise and white dress , more fitting on bodice and sleeves a neat elbow length,
the skirt was flowing. You looked super.
OK enough from me Pamela. Wales UK .

  8. I live in North Carolina. Our summers are hot and humid. I agree with Susan, a flowing, loose dress is immensely more comfortable than a tighter fit dress. I have purchased several loose fitting dresses this summer, and they are so comfortable. Even more so than pants.

  9. Love everything about this dress. The color, shape, and pockets.
You look great in this dress.
    Thank you for sharing!

  10. Pockets win me over too. I love unfitted dresses and tops when the temps get in the 90s. Yesterday we had a “feels like” temperature of 105. Even my light weight pants with drawstring waist feel confining, This is a pretty dress without being girly. I like it and you look beautiful in it.

  11. Perfect dress for staying home or stepping out for errands. The way you put together your accessories it’s no longer just a dress. I would wear it on hot days for a casual lunch or light dinner.
Humid hot weather is so uncomfortable. Thanks for your post and the recipe.

  12. As I see it, in hot and humid weather, one can choose among linen (wrinkles); loose, flowy dresses (tricky not to look frumpy and/or like the Titanic ); and shorts (ugh, ugh and ugh). My choice is to wear my usual full-length pants and 3/4 sleeve tops in cooler cotton fabrics and go with it! We are blessed with lots of air conditioning and fans in the South. Others choices may vary. I want to look good and I have yet to suffer heatstroke.

    1. Boil the eggs for about fifteen minutes, then give them an ice water bath to stop the cooking. I use Stonewall Kitchen Truffle Aioli instead of mayo, and add about 1 tablespoon of Maille Honey Dijon Mustard with garlic and dill gherkin size pickles and a tablespoon of champagne vinegar. Use a small amount of each item and add more if the yolk mixture is too dry. You can also add a tablespoon of melted butter for an extra bit of yummy. Finally, I top them with a few pieces of the diced pickles, paprika, pink Himalayan salt, and fresh ground pepper. Refrigerate for about two hours before serving.

  13. This is a definite winner …… beautiful colour on you and the style really suits you. It would be lovely for going out for brunch or to dinner on date night.

  14. Love the solid color. It is beautiful on you. So many of the new “fluffy”, longer styles look great on younger women but tend to make an older woman look very matronly, especially in prints. This is the best one yet! Looks gorgeous on you!

  15. Duplicate gratitude to dear Susan .Two.perfect inspirations:
1 . a comfortable dress for warm and humid days ( I live in Greece )
    2. a crossbody bag for hands free shopping.

  16. Susan I love the new shorter hairstyle on you. My opinion, it makes you look younger. Also enjoy your styling of different outfits.

  17. Hi Susan,
I would just like say what a pleasure it is to read your blog without the constant ads, pop-ups and irritations that are so bothersome on other blogs. Thanks for not going that route. Have a great day.
    Thank you,
    Nancy

  18. I love dresses with sleeves and pockets. Living in the foothills of Northern California, the dress is perfect all spring summer and fall. Adding a little Jean jacket on cooler days keeps me stylish and comfy. I have 10 such dresses in various colors and prints. Bought mostly from Amazon❤️❤️

  19. Dear Susan,
Love, love, love, reading your newsletter. Just an observation, I would really like to see what you look like in a shorter dress just below the knee.

    1. I don’t wear that length because of many broken veins on my left leg. It is much more flattering to wear a dress that ends a couple of inches above the ankle if that is the most slender part of the leg.

  20. Like others, I always enjoy that you share your lighter menu fare. As my husband and I have gotten older, we tend to eat much lighter meals too. Could you share your recipe for Mr. Mickey’s favorite deviled eggs sometime? They look delicious! And you look lovely in your dress!!
