Oh Susan, so sorry to hear yours and Mr Mickey’s news sincere wishes for you both to come through these trying times.
I would echo your advice about regular mammograms. Here in the UK routine screening takes place three yearly and at mine on June 1st a small lump was detected and after biopsy was found to be cancerous. I would never have felt the lump until things were much more serious. I’ve had a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy and am awaiting results from those. Hopefully then five rounds of radiotherapy and hormone therapy will see things right.
Positive thoughts to you Susan and to all who are experiencing health issues at this time.
You have a positive attitude contributing to the healing process. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Susan, thank you for sharing your next chapter. Your message is a valuable reminder of the importance of regular checkups. Wishing you and Mr. Mickey all the best for your treatment and recovery. We look forward to hearing more from you again soon.
Liebe Susan, ich wünschen Ihnen und Mr. Mickey alles Gute und viel Kraft für die kommende Zeit. Herzliche Grüße Monika Jacob

In your response to one of your readers in the last entry, you said, “Life is short. I wish both yourself Susan, and Mr Mickey great strength and positivity as you face these challenges and I very much forward to seeing you both back on social media soon. Much love Alison.
I was diagnosed with the same breast cancer 5 years ago. Very terrified at the time. Lumpectomy and radiation treatments were in order. Be aware of the burning near the end of radiation. Wearing no bra was the answer. I also had my hair cut and colored before treatment started. Mani and pedi was also in order. Something I noticed was that my hair and nails did not grow for 10 weeks. I also filled the freezer with quick meals to fix. It was an exhausting 2 to 3 months.
Wishing you strength and courage and sending you love. I hope the goodness you have sent out over the years comes back to comfort you.
I am praying for you and Mr.Mickey.
I wish both of you return with good health. Life does get challenging at time. I had breast cancer about 12 years ago and so far so good. I do agree about staying current with our health checkups sometimes we do t want to go but feel better when we do.
You will be missed but take care. Looking forward to your return!
I’m a person of prayer and when I speak to the Lord you and Mr. Mickey will be included. This is another chapter in your journey called life and I wish you the best. Until you write again, be at peace knowing God is in control.

Blessings to you and Mr. Mickey as you start this journey. I will keep you in my prayers and look forward to your return sooner than later!
My thoughts go out to you both. It is certainly challenging to grow older. I am almost five years out from a similar diagnosis of BC. Please listen and act slowly to the advice you get. I was in a panic and even though the cancer was stage 1, grade 1, and removed completely and no sentinel node involvement was present, still wanted to take action. My radiologist stated that I would most likely be fine without it as long as I took an estrogen inhibitor for five years., which I have done . No chemo was necessary; a test proved that. I opted for sixteen sessions of radiation anyway, to be sure.
Two years late I am suffering another cancer, which the oncologists blame almost certainly on the radiation. Go slowly, evaluate everything, and get a second or even third opinion.
I don’t want to be a downer among all the good wishes, that’s not why I’m saying this. I truly wish both of you many good years together.
Hope and love.
Sad news for you two. Like you said, early detection is important. Wishing you all the courage and support you need as you fight these battles. Looking forward to good news in the future.

Dear Susan,
I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Last year May 2022 I went through breast cancer diagnosis and surgery. Please research and get second opinions when you can. Through my journey I discovered Magtrace. It is injected prior to surgery. It may prevent you from having lymph nodes removed. That within itself is a whole other issue. Ask your Doctor about Magtrace.
Sincerely,
Mitzi
Praying for you and Mr. Mickey.
So very sorry for your difficult health changeling events. So wonderful you have
each other for support.
You will both be in our prayers and, hopefully, you can feel the love sent your way>

Susan, sorry to hear this news about you and Mr Mickey. Sending positive thoughts and BIG HUGS to you both!!!
Please continue with the good health tips! They are as important as your fashion information. Thanks, as always.
Oh Susan – my younger sister received a similar diagnosis earlier this summer. She is very fit, takes care of herself, and we have no family history. Needless to say it was a shock for all. She opted for a double mastectomy even though the mammogram picked up cancer in only one breast. However, when they analyzed the removed tissue they found cancer in both breasts – so she clearly made the right decision, albeit a drastic one. Thank you for sharing your story as it may save someone’s life. My sister is recovering well and I hope you have the same experience. How awful that Mr. Mickey is having his own challenges at the same time – we are praying for you both, please keep us informed as you can.
You and Mr. Mickey are in my thoughts and prayers.
Praying for you, both, for healing and comfort.
Dear Susan, so sorry to hear your health news. My thought are with you and Mr. Mickey for a good recovery. My husband and I, both in our mid 80’s have suffered earlier bouts with cancer and survived. Thanks to yearly examinations.

Thank you for sharing this and we wish the best of health for you both. I, too, had a second mammogram and ultrasound recently and while I received an all clear, the waiting was horrendous. My mother had breast cancer 10 years apart, so I started my yearly exams much sooner than most. Each year there is always a moment of dread and a thankfulness of being proactive. Susan, If comfortable in doing so, please provide a mailing address(PO Box) for an occasional card. Kind regards~ Cindy in VA

My thoughts and prayers are with you both. It used to be 1 in 7 would have some form of cancer in their lives. Then it jumped up to 1 in 3. Now, they are saying, we will all have some form of cancer in our lifetime. Early diagnoses is so important. Praying for a positive outcome for both of you. Thank you so much for sharing your diagnoses with us. It may remind others to keep up with medical appointments and examinations.
All the best to you and Mr. Mickey. I had a small bladder cancer many years ago and had it taken out and just get yearly checks but I have been fine . ☺️❤️
You, Mr. Micky and your medical teams are in my prayers.
Susan, I am so sorry to hear your news. Sending positive thoughts for complete recovery for you both.
Susan, I will keep you and Mr. Mickey in my prayers for health, strength, and a full recovery. I am a 4-year survivor of invasive ductal carcinoma, found in both breasts, and I have outstanding quality of life (I’m 67 years old). Happily, treatment and follow-up for this particular type of breast cancer has come a looooong way in the last few years. I hope that you, like me, will find that there is no need for chemo therapy, and perhaps none for radiation, although your doctor will know what’s best.
I will look forward to reading more from you when you are ready.
All the best –
Joy
Best wishes for you and Mr Mickey! Our 47 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with invasive Ductal carcinoma following a routine mammogram. After a lumpectomy x2 was unsuccessful in getting clear margins she elected to have a bilateral mastectomy. Early detection made the difference in her treatment..no need for radiation or chemo for which we are very thankful. She is in the process of preparing for reconstructive surgery that will be done in the fall.
You have a great attitude which is so important! I know you will do well!!
May God bless you and be with you both. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Best of luck with your surgery. I had a mastectomy in March. Luckily the cancer was stage 0 and contained in the duct. I’m back to regular exercise classes now, and feeling great. Wishing the same for ou.
Prayers and best wishes for both you and Mr.Mickey. You have been an inspiration to me and I know your next chapter will be inspiring and a learning experience we can all benefit from.Thank you for the very classy way you dispel this news to your tribe.
Prayers for you and Mr. Mickey.
Susan, I am SO sorry for yours and Mr. M’s cancer diagnosis’. I’m a 10 year survivor of Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (Stage 2). I was always diligent w/ my mammograms and that’s what ultimately caught it. I had a double mastectomy (even tho the cancer was found in only 1 breast) with immediate reconstruction. I wasn’t given much advice back then but if I knew then what I know now I 100% would NOT have gotten implants. Last year I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that may be linked to the implants. (Research BII). Silly me, I just wanted to look “normal” and put cancer in the rearview mirror! So, long story short, I had the implants removed a few months ago. I am now a “flat” chick and actually not minding it at all. Cancer gave me the breast reduction I always wanted. One positive way to look at it, which I always try to do!
My father had bladder cancer so unfortunately I’m very familiar with that as well. My best wishes for healing and a very short cancer story for you both.
Prayers for both of you to recover excellent health!
Prayers for both of you. You are such an inspiration in so many ways. I have followed you since Fifty, Not Frumpy. I look forward to your future posts and wish you the best. My husband is an oncologist and sees healing everyday!

I am very sorry to hear about the cancer diagnoses. As we get older we are finding ourselves dealing with many health issues. The good thing for all of us is that there are so many better options than even a few years ago.
My husband was diagnosed with bladder cancer a couple of years ago. In his journey, he found a wonderful organization. It’s called BCAN or Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network. They have podcasts and online information about bladder cancer. They are very involved in bladder cancer research. They have people available to talk to that have experienced bladder cancer. When he was diagnosed and when he was operated on, we how had so many questions and we didn’t know where to get answers. If only we had known about BCAN then. I would strongly encourage Mr. Mickey to check out this group.
Best wishes and good thoughts to both of you!
May you both have peace and experience excellent care and good results with whatever treatment you decide to pursue.
Many blessings. I will pray for both of you.
Sending you both prayers and positive energy for a quick healing. I’m so happy that both of you have early diagnosis. I’m hoping for quick recoveries

I battled the same carcinoma in 2011. Had lumpectomy and radiation followed by 5 yrs of tamoxifen. Tough times but I’ve been great since. My husband has battled prostate cancer for 6 yrs also. We have definitely supported each other and just keep moving forward. Good luck with everything and keep us posted.
Prayers for you both. I too was diagnosed with IDC in 2013. While I am so sorry that you have to go through this, it’s curable and will be history before you know it. I’m happy to correspond privately if you would ever want to compare notes.

You and Mr Mickey are in my prayers, Susan. My daughter had the same form of breast cancer as you have and has made a full recovery following a lumpectomy. You are fortunate to have it diagnosed early.
Susan, I am sorry to hear about the health issues you and Mr. Mickey are going through. You are wise to get regular mammograms which can detect cancer before it could be discovered by a self-exam. I’m happy to hear you have a good prognosis and will keep both you and Mr. Mickey in my thoughts and prayers while you are going through treatments.
I am so sorry to read this. I, too went through a cancer journey a year ago and it isn’t easy but taking it one day at a time and rejoicing in every day helps. Don’t be afraid to ask for help be thankful for modern medicine. Journaling really helps and makes looking back on this time so helpful. Saying a prayer for you both!

Not invading your personal space..as a woman of faith, I commit to pray ease of care and quick healing for you both. Your relationship is a treasure. After a hard fought 3 year battle with cancer, I lost the love of my life in April. Until his illness we maintained separate residences for a few days each week for over 30 years..We stayed “in love”, excited to see each other, appreciative of each other’s interests….Best of all, we were such loves and best friends we had no issues with merging our lives full time the last 3.. He cared for me when I had surgery for a pre cancerous ductal diagnosis in 2017.. I was able to do the same when he was diagnosed with colo-rectal carcinoma in 2020….Will look forward to seeing you back. Attitude is 99%..
Wishing the best for both of you and hoping for a quick recovery.
Susan, I wish you and Mr. Mickey a complete remission. I can’t believe you have to go through this simultaneously. I am sure you both will be back imgood health to inspire us all. God bless

Oh Susan, the last of so many comments wishing you and Mr. Mickey well for the foreseeable.
Rather synchronous as my annual mammogram is in 3 weeks time…
I shall be thinking of you both as you take on whatever comes your way.
Kind regards.
Wishing you & Mr. Mickey all the best with your cancer treatments! Much love, may I ask, did they discover the bladder cancer with routine blood tests?
Nancy
The symptoms included blood in the urine, lower back pain, and frequent night urination. A camera was inserted into the bladder to discover a small cancerous tumor.
Susan and Mr. Mickey….I am so glad that you both have early diagnoses and timely intervention towards recovery. After reading the multitude of good wishes, know you have an army of online friends standing by to support you any way we can. Take care, follow through and we will be waiting anxiously for your return. Hugs!

Dear Susan, I too had the same type cancer you have. I had a lumpectomy and radiation and now take an anti estrogen pill every day for 5-10 years. My cancer was in 2019.

I’m sorry to hear of your and Mr Mickey’s cancer diagnosis. I will pray for a good outcome for both of you. I had the same breast cancer diagnosis in 2019 and had a lumpectomy and radiation treatment. I just saw my oncologist today and will have another mammogram in a few weeks. He told me that my last visit will be in April and I will discontinue with the hormone reducing medicine. My cancer was found because of a routine mammogram. It was found early. So I highly recommend getting routine mammograms. Please everyone don’t skip them. They will save your life!
I was saddened to hear of the cancer diagnosis for you and Mr Mickey. I know that there have been tremendous advancements in the treatment of cancer in the last 10+ years. I wish you and Mr lMickey a quick recovery. Looking forward to seeing your posts again in the near future.

We took short hikes along mountain streams that were refreshing to body, mind and soul. We enjoyed delicious restaurant meals and picnics. Each sunset was spectacular. It was all as you have described!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge about how to choose and style clothes for an older woman – I didn’t know what to do until I found your blog. A bonus was your way of eating and exercising, which has helped me lose weight and feel much better. I love that you eat vegan meals (breakfast and lunch, no supper) during the week, then indulge in something more decadent on the weekends when you go out exploring.

Dear Susan,
I’m so sorry to hear that you have breast cancer. With good care I’m sure that yo will have a speedy recovery.
My thoughts are with Mr. Mickey. I too have bladder cancer. It was caught early but my oncologist believes in erring on the side of caution so I have had several cystoscopies and about 30 chemo treatments. While it isn’t a walk in the park, the treatments aren’t too difficult. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.
Love,
Katie Thomas
I’m a two time breast cancer survivor; both times detected early through a routine mammogram.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear this sad news for you both. You always show such positivity and a healthy attitude to your life and wellbeing. Share your journey together and you will be supporting each other. Take any help on offer. I have followed you for many years, reading you blog and sharing your life. I live in the Uk and visited Asheville some years ago on holiday, so do know where you are in the US. Best wishes and positive thoughts to you both. You know you have a wonderful online community who care deeply about you xx
My dear Susan, I am so sorry you have to go through this but I am sure you will recover. And the same goes for Mr. Mickey. Susan I am so sorry to hear the news of your and Mr Mickey’s health problems. I’m glad they have been found early and that, plus your positive attitudes, will serve you both well. You are so right in recommending regular examinations and testing as the best way of early detection and recovery. I wish you both all the best for a speedy recovery.
Dear Susan, I was so sorry to hear that you and Mr Mickey have had such awful news. I love your positive attitude to life and enjoy hearing about your adventures together. Take care and look after each other. I look forward to better news for you both. Helen
So sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Please check out a book- The Iodine Crisis by Lynne Farrow-
I will keep both you and Mr. Mickey in my prayers for strength and healing.
As the hundreds of comments show, you and Mr Mickey are like family to many of us subscribers/readers and we are shocked and saddened to hear of your diagnoses. It shows what an amazing person you are to think of us when you tell us your news and say you don’t want to go into radio silence without explanation. Your positive attitude has always seen you through. May it do so again. Wishing you both all the very best.
Praying for a quick recovery for you and Mr Mickey!
Oh Susan, praying for your and Mr. Mickey’s complete healing and thank you for your bravery and unselfishness in sharing your story which will no doubt save lives! You inspire me to shop more carefully and eat more mindfully and now, to handle difficulty with grace.
I am now 82 years old and was diagnosed with the same cancer you have when I was 50 years old. I chose to have a mastectomy and reconstructtion–did not need chemo or any other treatment after that–have been fine.
This past year my husband,, 85, was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He had surgery for the removal of the tumor and was treated with BCG at the NJ Cancer Institute and is doing well.
Good luck to both you and Mr. Mickey.
PS: I have been following you for a long time and enjoy your emails immensely. Thank you.
Prayer for you and Mr Mickey, sweet friend. You are an inspiration to me as you live your life with elegance and grace.
Prayers to both of you for the coming surgeries.
Susan I have been following your journey in life now for nearly a year. Each posting of your adventures with Mickie were thoroughly exciting while you shared the tips on fashion, travel, etiquette and so much more. Although it has been alarming to hear both you and Mickie have been diagnosed within a short period of time with health issues that will be addressed in the upcoming months, know that your cheerleaders are rooting for a positive outcome. Thanks for being an inspiration in many ways from day one!
Thank you for letting us know about your diagnosis.
The fact that it has been detected so early is a very good indicator for a successful outcome,
Please keep us updated if you feel up to it.
Best regards to you both
Susan, sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. As it happens, you and I are on the same track! I write this this sitting in same day surgery with same diagnosis and background (regular mammograms pay off!) It’s still a little scary but I too believe the outcome will be okay. Prayers for your outcome too. It’s a journey…
Thank you for letting us know about both of your health issues. We will be praying for you and Mr. Mickey!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery for you and Me Mickey.
So sad to hear about your diagnosis and Mr Mickey’s. Both are treatable, trust your physicians and have faith that treatment will work. Faith and trust….. two very difficult things to do. Believe.
My prayers and many blessings for your healing and Mr Mickey’s comfort and recovery.
Your positive attitude is imperative and prayer and meditation are soothing to the soul and help the body heal.
Many hugs to both of you! Til soon my dear Susan!

GOD Bless both you and Mr. Mickey, Susan!
Dear Susan, so sorry you are going thru this bump in the road. Thirteen years ago I went thru the same scenario. My tumor had not spread but was a vicious pathology. I had bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction, chemo and then herceptin for a year. Truthfully I worked thru it all except for six weeks. I credit following the China study diet and good health and wonderful medical team. Blessings darling, you have got this. Bette O’Connor RN, MSNAP AOCN
Susan, I am saddened by this news. My prayers and best wishes for you and Mr. Mickey will be with as you go through this treatment and healing journey.

Sorry to hear about the news of your mammogram results, but sounds like you found it early. Also sorry to hear of Mr. Mickey’s bladder cancer. My husband, who is 83, sees a urologist yearly and was diagnosed with bladder cancer about a year ago. They were able to remove the cancer and is checked every 6 months. Will keep you both in my prayers. I will turn 80 in October and have followed you for several years and enjoy your articles so very much. I feel as though I know you personally. ❤️
Sending positive thoughts and wishing you and Mr. Mickey both a smooth and speedy recovery!

I am so sorry. I want to give you hope since I had breast cancer a few years ago. Please do all the doctors ask. You will be fine if you do. I go all the time. The treatments are not pleasant but they work. I know you will do it and succeed.
Just want to congratulate, and thank, you, for using your platform for helping me, and countless other women. I wonder how many mammogram appointments have been scheduled by this column. How many are stepping out of their fear and finally making that phone call? You made it sound so easy and uncomplicated – no big deal! Makes me smile just thinking about it. Bravo!
And I thank you (again, I’ve written before) for your words of advice on looking my best, shopping my own closet, celebrating friendships and love and the beauty of the world around us. Your influence goes well beyond an outfit or lipstick.
Thank you, and I wish you continued good health and vitality.
Mindy

Taking a moment to say a prayer for you and Mr Mickey for successful treatments and complete recovery. And also a prayer for all who will be providing your treatment and care. I just scheduled my yearly mammogram yesterday; I’ve become more vigilant about getting one annually since my mom had breast cancer 10 years ago. Please know that we will all be thinking of you, and waiting for the day you feel well enough to start posting again. Take care

I hope you both pass through this time of treatment quickly to the status of total remission. I need to tell you how grateful I am for all that you have shared. Whenever I see one of your posts come up, I make a time during my day and sit and treasure every moment, looking over the pictures several times, clicking on each link, going to a map and checking on the places you travel. You and Mr. Mickey feel like friends. Thank you for all the fun times. Thank you for the inspiration. As you go through these days, know that a stranger is praying for you both to have an easy time of it, and that you will be blessed and surrounded with compassionate people. Best wishes to you and and Mr. Mickey as you travel your next chapter in life. I know we readers will channel love and support to both of you during this challenging period. Sending virtual hugs to you and Mr. Mickey.
Susan, thank you for sharing your journey and especially the reminder about yearly mammograms. I also had breast cancer and the best advice I can give is research and get the best doctors you can. If you aren’t comfortable with the advice, get a second opinion. Then, take your doctors (surgical, oncology, radiation) advice. I am 7 years cancer free. It is a long experience to have breast cancer, but it is manageable. With God’s guidance and comfort, you will be at peace throughout the time of treatment. Prayers for you and Mr. Mickey as you both go through this together.
I am so very sorry to hear about both of you & your diagnoses. I feel like you have become part of my life & wish you only the best. Life can definitely have some challenges as we age. Your good attitudes will definitely help in your recovery. Bless you both. ❤️
Susan, I have always followed you and have learned so much through the last several years. I am sadden to hear of your diagnosis as well as Mr. Mickey’s. I know God will give you both strength and grace for healing. I had the same type of breast cancer 12 years ago and I’m so glad they caught it early! I will pray for both of you and ask God for a total and speedy recovery. I look forward to the day when you will return online. God bless both of you!
Oh my. Before I read ALL of the 453 comments, I want to add my own with the tag #breast cancer survivor. I too am a testimonial for early detection. My diagnosis came in 2021. Initially, I was in disbelief because the tumor was SO tiny, how could I have cancer? That both you and Mr Mickey will be starting cancer treatments is sobering to think about and know that your online support team – that would be all of us – will be holding you both in healing energy and prayer. When you can, stay in touch with us. Don’t feel that you have to stick to what have become your signature topics. You could create a short blog about a blade of grass and we would be happy with that. Having said that, we of course understand that there are times when you need to step back and focus on what is in front of you. For myself? I’ll think of you and Mr Mickey every day and revisit your blog to re-read some of your posts. There is much wisdom and joy here.
Praying praying for both of you! May the Lord give you both full recovery! Much love and blessings!
Glenna
Prayers for you both!
Thank you for your candor and my heart goes out to both of you on your diagnoses. You empower women to do things to be their best selves, even when that is difficult. Half of all people will have a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, so sharing your story helps ease the fear in others, especially when it comes to screenings. If we want health care providers to do their best for us, we have to show up. That is what you do, in so many ways. Here is a big (but gentle) hug across the miles
Susan, I was saddened to learn of your diagnosis and Mr, Mickey’s as well. Incredible that you will both be facing this at the same time. Wishing you both speedy recovery from the treatments and hope you still pop in once in a while to let us know how you’re doing and I hope you feel the love and support of your followers as you deal with this. No doubt your courage and graciousness will get you through this. God bless.
My dearest lady, becoming a member of the “C” club can be devastating at the moment of receiving the diagnosis. I still remember, extremely clear, that moment when the telephone call came in “ yep, it’s cancer”. Said with such an unemotional voice. Since then I hear that from a lot friends and acquaintances. I guess there is no easy way to tell a patient that news, but, when I hung up my phone I had a complete emotional break down for about ten minutes.
I had lost my soulmate two years before and. I felt so alone. But then, I squared my shoulders and began to research my options,
Each of us must make our decisions about our personal health and how to go forward with treatment. Having friends and family to give us love and support is reassuring.
I just wanted to let you know that there are many of us out here sending you love, support and respect. We’ll be here pulling for you and praying for the best results.
My best wishes to both of you for speedy recoveries and good health outcomes!
My thoughts and prayers are with you both. That might sound trite now a days, but it is most heartfelt. You have made such a difference in my life, and I have so enjoyed your “visits” as well as good sense to my life. May God bless and keep you both. Please, please keep in touch.
With loving thoughts and prayers for you both,
Christine

Wishing you both a speedy, full recovery. Your blogs have been such an inspiring example of how women can continue to achieve confidence, classic style and ageless beauty in their later years.
Susan, wishing you and Mr. Mickey all the best in your journey ahead. Thankful for your regular check ups! Good reminder for all of us.
Praying for both of you for the days ahead. I’ve been reading a little book called Life is Messy by Australian motivational speaker Matthew Kelly. It’s easy to read with short chapters, so you can read it in bits when you have 5 minutes. It’s available on Amazon. I think it would encourage both of you during this time. I have no idea what spiritual beliefs you might hold, but this would certainly be a time to lean into God. If you have a Bible, may I suggest the gospel of John and many of the Psalms? Both will be encouraging!
Wishing you both a speedy recovery. There’s lots more adventures to be had and share.
You both be in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
Karen Wills

My 42 year old daughter was diagnosed with ISDC within the last month. My heart is aching as she faces double mastectomies in a few weeks. I pray your journey is short and you and Mr. Mickey heal completely and quickly.
Wendy
I am so sorry you are both having to deal with this terrible disease and I wish you both a smooth recovery
Susan,
Mr. Mickey and you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have been an avid reader of your posts. I look forward to your future posts. Take care.
Sincerely,
Audrey
I’m so sorry to hear of this diagnosis. I had breast cancer 14 years ago, too. I know you take such good care of yourself and will have excellent care. You will also be looking back on this time of treatment and diagnosis someday. One piece of advice a nurse gave me was now is not the time to go to the theatre—the idea being avoid large groups of people if going through chemotherapy since it lowers your resistance. Just settle in, get doctors you respect and trust, and take good care of yourself. Don’t look up things on the internet; breast cancer has so many variables. I’ll be thinking of you.
May God bless you both.
Prayers for for a full recovery for both of you.
Will be adding you all to my prayers. Thank you for sharing your health challenges and your honesty and encouragement. Wishing you all the best. Take care and know you have brought joy to so many of us.
Dear Susan and Mr Micky,
I was saddened to receive your news today. Your adventures together will be missed. My prayers and I’m sure many others will be said for you both. Thank you for sharing with us and your continued care for us. Yearly exams are a must!!!!
Prayerfully,
Mary Holstrom

Judy

I wish you both a swift and complete recovery. Let us know how you are doing Susan.
Take care
Keeping you both in my prayer, glad you caught it early, best wishes for a full speedy recovery
Oh my what a shocking email this morning! I do want to share I had the same BC 10 years ago. Please do full removal with implants in both breast. I started with lumpectomy and so sorry I dd. Three years ago I lost it all with no implants now. I avoid mirrors LOL. Treatment protocol is 10 years. I started with 35 rounds of radiation; no chemo needed as it had not spread. Then I did 6 years on Tomaxifen and only 6 months on Armidex before it destroyed my bones and I gained 30 pounds, high blood pressure, etc. Awful drug! You can stay on Tomaxifen 6-10 years if you wish. It does not destroy bones. It is always your choice – remember this always.
As for Mr. Mickey, we know many men who have had the bladder wash treatment for their bladder cancer and are living full lives some 10 years later. We know one man a new bladder was made for him (he’s doing great too) So glad Mr. Mickey has found his early too! Keep in mind Emory Winship Cancer Center has a lot of new advancements in cancer. Same for UTenn Knoxville and Vanderbilt.
You both are in our thoughts and prayers. It is so sweet you have each other to go through this new journey together with. GOD is in control of it all.
Blessings to both of you,
Sandy
Dahlonega, GA

I had DCIS 5 years ago and opted for double mastectomy. I didn’t need chemo or radiation- I was very lucky. You’ve got this! I’m sure you’ll have many, many women routing for you (and men ).
Thinking of you as you navigate this new reality. And Mr Mickey too- cancer truly sucks.

I am so sorry to hear about you and Mr. Mickey’s cancer challenges. A year ago I had a mammogram and biopsy scare. Mine turned out to be a cist, but I understand the trauma it causes. I am a believer and will be praying for you, Susan, and Mr. Mickey. You have helped older women like me to appreciate and enjoy fashion, style, and life through your blog. May you both be restored to health and have peace as you walk this path.

Lifting you and Mr. Mickey in prayer for healing, continued peace and all good things. We look forward to your return.
Dear Susan and Mr. Mickey,
Always enjoy the snippets of your days along the years you have shared. Sorry about the diagnosis but as you say you caught both early and will get treatment as needed. Success rate with early diagnosis is excellent…….still it is a reminder of age and time.
Know you will be missed in the next few weeks as you take care of each other.
Will look forward to updates as you feel led.
Thank you for sharing and encouraging others to watch their health needs with regular checkups!
We learn from each other.
God bless,
Gail Lee

Like many others have said, you are not alone. I, too am a 5 year BC survivor, having had a single mastectomy, reconstruction, no chemo, no radiation, no tamoxifen. I found you when I went looking for how to feel and look better. Thank you for all you do to educate and share with us. I will be praying for you and Mr. Mickey to have complete healing and many more years of good health.

I absolutely love your posts and you have been a big inspiration to me personally as I still feel 17 but just turned 60 and want to age with style and grace. The best to both of you on this journey. As I also age, along with my friends, news of this sort has become a little more common then we would all like. So thankful for the wonderful Drs. and institutions that give us so much hope.
Speedy recovery to you! I love your blog.
Dear Susan,
I am saddened to hear that both you and Mr. Mickey have received cancer diagnoses. Both of you will be in my prayers for full recoveries. Thank you for sharing this news and the importance of regular mammograms and checkups. May God grant you both peace and strength.
Marilyn M.
Hope everything goes well with your treatment and that you are back to tell us about it soon.
Sending wishes for a complete and fast recovery for both you and Mr. Mickey. I had the same diagnosis in 2016 and put it in my rear view mirror in less than a year. It is such a common diagnosis. And early diagnosis for any cancer is so important. I am sure with this post you and Mr Mickey have prompted someone to screen and will likely save a life or two. I decided to go week by week and keep my eye on the goal to new health.
Best wishes to you both for healthy recoveries
Wishing you and Mr. Mickey all the best during your recoveries!
Prayers and best wishes. Take care of yourself and that handsome man of yours!
Dear Susan. Such an outpouring of support for you and Mr.Mickey! Breast cancer is scary but very manageable today. 50% of breast cancers are found in women over 65, so you are not alone! I had treatment for breast cancer five years ago and am doing well. One great source of information and support for me was the online group breastcancer.org. I wish you and Mr. Mickey all the best for easy treatments and a successful outcome.
Wishing you and Mr. Mickey a speedy recovery

While this health situation will soon be in the rear view mirror, I want to tell you —- and the delightful Mr. Mickey —- I will miss you both. (As my relative Winston Churchill said, “When you’re going through hell, keep going.”) I look forward to you and Mr. Mickey on the road again.

Sending prayers and healing vibes to you and Mr. Mickey. Gosh I hate cancer so much. I know that your healthy lifestyle will help you through this journey.
So sorry to hear this health news for you and Mr. Mickey. I went in for a routine mammogram in 2002 and was told I had ductal carcinoma in situ or DCIS. It was caught very early and I underwent a lumpectomy and then radiation. Now 21 years later, I am cancer free and in great health other than needing to have gallbladder surgery in my near future. I pray that you and Mr. Mickey will have excellent medical care and a speedy and full recovery. Best wishes to you both!
You and Mr. Mickey will remain in my thoughts and prayers. God bless.
I am so sorry you both are going through all this. Praying for a quick and successful recovery.

I have enjoyed reading about your trips and the clothes that you choose to wear. You are definitely an inspiration. BTW – this is my first comment – I am a “sidelines” type of person and don’t usually comment. 🙂
I’ve always enjoyed your travel photos of the Blue Ridge Mtns. My daughter and her fiancé are moving to North Carolina next year. I hope to follow them from CO. It looks absolutely stunning – they hope to be right out of Asheville.
I am sending positive energy to you and Mr. Mickey and so happy for both of you that test results were found early on. Thank goodness for taking care of yourselves and eating well. You’ve got this!

Thank you Susan for sharing. My doctor gave me a script for my mamo 2 months ago and its sitting on my vanity. Because of you, I’m calling to make my appointment as soon as I finish typing. I do get it every year too … but I’ve lagged in making the call. Thank you.
Good luck with your treatments. It certainly sounds like you did catch it in time, thank the Good Lord. And I also wish the same for Mr. Micky.
When you are ready to post your wonderful outfits and suggestions, I’ll be here ready to enjoy them. But in the meantime, you take care of Susan.
Thank you for your site … and thank you for making me Make that call for an appointment.
Very sincerely, Georgieanne Ross
I am sorry you both are going through this and I am hoping for the best possible outcome for both of you.
Praying for you and Mr Mickey as you undergo treatments. My prayer is for excellent results and peace during them.
Susan,
My breast cancer was found the same as yours. No lump or symptoms… just a routine mammogram. I haven’t missed an anual screening for decades. Added an ultrasound because of dense breasts.
The best information I found is Breastcancer.org. They have medical consultants to ensure accurate information and are
the most up-to-date. Finding this website eased the upset I was feeling and calmed me.
I”m sorry to hear of you and Mr. Mickey’s diagnosis(s).
Thank you for sharing your new chapter,
I’m sure there will be challenges ahead for you and Mr Mickey, you both have such positive attitudes I’m know you will meet them head on.
I’m sending much love and hugs for a speedy recovery.
I look forward to updates when you are able.
I will be praying for you Both. You have been a wonderful example to all of us. I know you will keep a great attitude. We were just in your area last week and it is so beautiful…We visited the Pretty Place Chapel in Cleveland, SC. It was breathtaking… Keep us posted on how you both are doing. Wishing you and Mr. Mickey the best in your treatments and recovery. Hope you keep us posted in an update once in awhile to let us know how things are progressing.
Dear Susan and Mickey,
May God Bless Mickey as he deals with this medical issue and you as you support him through this journey. I only discovered your blog a few months ago and found I have found it helpful. I will miss your updates because we live in the Blue Ridge area of Virginia and I never tire seeing the scenery and I have even made some new discoveries in terms of hotels and restaurants to visit. Thank you to both of you. I wish you well.
Susan,
Best wishes for a quick and full recovery! I had the same thing happen after my annual mammogram this year and will be having surgery next week. This is my second time after 20 years. I have done everything I could to prevent this from happening short of taking hormone blockers due to the side effects. As my doctors have told me then and now, sometimes it’s just bad luck.
Take good care of yourself and I look forward to your return!
Connie
I am so sorry that you each have received a diagnosis of cancer. I sincerely appreciate that you shared these challenges with us. I had a very similar diagnosis as yours in 2020. After a lumpectomy, radiation and an immunotherapy drug (5 year treatment plan) I am healthy and enjoying my life at 72?years old. Wishing you both full recoveries in your treatments and a healthy future.
Very sorry to hear about your health issues, will be thinking about you both and sending positive thoughts your way. Take care.
Susan.
So sorry to hear about your breast cancer. It is good they caught it early. The chances of a positive outcome is higher. Also I am sorry to hear about Mr. Mickey’s renal cancer. He seems like such a sweet gentleman. Prayers for both of you. Thank you for letting us know. Special care for both of you.
Judith
Praying for a quick recovery for both you and Mr. Mickey! Please keep us all updated as you feel able and thank you for encouraging all women to get their yearly mammogram. So important!
You and your husband in my prayers, and wishing you both quick and complete healing and recovery.
Susan, I am so sorry to hear the news about both you and Mr. Mickey. Prayers that both of you will be healed and make a complete recovery. Please take all of the time off that you need to recover. But please also keep us updated when you are able to do so. We will miss you during your recovery, but we look forward to your return when you are well again. Best wishes!
Susan. I am so glad you posted the information about your health issue. In April I had the same diagnosis. It’s now August 3 and I am completely done with my surgery & radiation and I will be going on some medication for the next several years to prevent possible reoccurrence. It’s so important for women to get mammograms especially if they are late 70s and 80s because as one doctor told me cancer is an old woman’s disease. Studies now show that a lumpectomy is as effective as mastectomy and much less invasive. If you’re going to be having radiation, I want to recommend a product, although it was toward the end of my radiation I discovered, that helped the itching and soreness that plain Aquaphor did not. PhysAssust Oncology Cream from Amazon.
Early diagnosis is the key. Good luck to you and Mr Mickey.
DEAR SUSAN & MR MICKEY
I WILL BE PRAYING FOR HEALING AND WHOLENESS TO BE YOUR EXPERIENCES.
FATHER GIVE YOUR WISDOM TO THOSE CARING FOR THIS LOVELY COUPLE. AMEN
BLESSINGS…JACQUI

My heart goes out to you Susan. i am a breast cancer survivor. This is a difficult time with a lot of decisions. like you my cancer was diagnosed early and i reached out to Dr William LaValley a homeopath medical doctor. When no one else could help with a decision whether or not to have my breast removed. He said right away you have no choice a mastectomy is your answer. He was right. I had a breast removed and when the results came back my margins were all clear and i did not need radiation or further treatment. That was 23 years ago. I hope this helps and i think Dr LaValley is in Arizona but at that time he had a clinic in Nova Scotia and Arizona. Take care and a speedy recovery
Oh my….best wishes to you both as you undergo treatment to beat both your health issues! Your bravery in sharing is so appreciated….I’ve just put a call in to get that mammogram scheduled! Also, good advice…listen to your body….I’ve had a toothache last couple of days…thought I had just gotten food stuck under a bridge…was able to see dentist this morning, who referred me immediately to Endodontics who had more advanced equipment….turns out I have a cracked tooth with resulting infection…doctor asked if I had trouble breathing as this type of infection can lead to life threatening complications if inspection spreads to closing your throat! Fortunately I do not have a fever, and have started immediately on antibiotics, awaiting appointment with oral surgeon. So, yes, if anything is different, your body is trying to tell you something. I look forward to your future blogs with good news regarding you both!
The very best to you and Mr Mickey and may you both fight this and regain your health. You have saved lives by reporting this and urging us to get those mammograms even though we might want to skip a year.
May God keep you in His hands during this time.
I’m glad you have each other! Please, take care and i will miss you, come back when you are ready. Praying for you both, hugs!
Susan,
About 35 years ago, I had an invasive ductal carcinoma. Following a mastectomy, I have had no further problems and lived an active life. I wish for you the same positive results. I will certainly be thinking of you and Mickey during this time

Prayers for you and Mr. Mickey as you begin this next chapter. I have very much enjoyed your tasteful, well-written, and informative posts on health and fashion. I will keep you both in my thoughts.
So sorry to hear your news. Wishing you and Mr. Mickey a quick recovery.
Susan, you have been inspiring your followers with fashion, diet and lifestyle advice for years. Now you are sharing personal health information with us and I dearly hope that those who have been putting off that mammogram for a while will make that appointment immediately. I had not had a mammogram before we moved to the mountains of western NC in July of 2019. We were looking for new doctors when Covid hit and shut everything down. When we finally found a doctor in 2021, they found a spot on my Mammogram. Diagnosis-DCIS, stage 0. I was very lucky. Please, please, please ladies get your mammograms and other tests as soon as possible. I’m sending prayers for your and Mr. Mickey’s complete and swift recovery. And thank you Susan for potentially saving someone’s life.
Dear Susan and Mr Mickey
Thank you as ever for your inspiration.
I hope and pray that you will benefit from the treatment and early diagnoses.
Wishing you all the very best.

Thankfully, you found it early! Best wishes to you and Mr. Mickey!
Susan, I had the same diagnosis in January of this year. I had the biopsy and lumpectomy. I had a native lymp node. I am hormone negative. After six weeks I had 15 radiation treatments, with no side effects. I am told I will have monograms every six months. I am 76 and doing well. I hope and pray that you and Mr Mickey have a smooth moths ahead .
I thank you for introducing me to beautycounder products.
Dear Susan,
I am so sorry to hear about you and Mr. Mickey. Since these issues were caught early, I see all recoveries will go well. I just had a mammogram, and everything was okay. This is done every year. I also have a deixis every two years.

I am so sorry Susan. Thank you for sharing the challenges you and Mr. Mickey are facing. You are very strong and have taken care of yourself for a long time. I just know this will help you through this most difficult time. Sending prayers to you and Mr. Mickey for a speedy recovery.
Susan, to face one cancer is enough for anyone or couple to face but to have two… I firmly believe that we are given challenges to create opportunities. My prayers and blessings are to you and Mr. Mickey for a full and very quick recovery for both of these challenges. Looking forward to how you make them into opportunities!
I am so very sorry to read of both of these diagnoses. I wish you well and look forward to seeing an upcoming post about great recoveries.
I’m saddened to hear this news regarding both you and Mr. Mickey. It is great you have each other. This week was my third diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. I go back in bc November for a bi-lateral one of each. Breast cancer seems to be rampant now, but with many improvements in treatment. I have heard bladder cancer is one of the easiest to treat. Think positive and hope to hear good news in the very near future. Prayers and blessings.
Susan you will be fine. I’m a 39 year survivor of breast cancer. Please be assured that you and Mr Mickey will be in our prayers for a full and rapid recovery. You are an inspiration to all of us ladies who continue to follow you.
Dear Susan, like all your other readers, I was shocked and saddened to hear of yours and Mr Mickey’s cancer diagnoses. I wish you both well as you go through treatment and recovery and look forward to once again reading the posts of your adventures together. Until then, you are both in my thoughts. Go well, Susan and Mickey!
Oh Susan, I am so sorry to read your news and do hope that this, your next chapter, ends on a high with you and Mr Mickey both recovered and enjoying life together with your usual zest.
I live in Melbourne, Australia but am currently on holiday in USA. As a result of your inspirational blogs about your lifestyle in and around Tennessee , my husband and I have booked a few nights in Asheville, NC. We will make sure we dine at the Sunset Terrace at The Grove Park Inn, enjoy the spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and drink a toast to the good health of you both.
I am so sorry to read this- having a daughter(breast), granddaughter,(melanoma), and husband(prostate), who have all had cancer. Daughter is 3 years cancer free. Diet, exercise, faith, and mental attitude have kept them all walking through treatments. I will keep you both in my prayers.
I will be anxious to see your return.
Thank you for being an advocate for testing! Hubs is a prostate cancer survivor, and I recently had my first squamous cell skin cancer issue. It’s so important for all of us to be mindful of our health.
Susan , I will miss your blog. It was a bright spot in my day. Please take care of yourself and Mr Mickey. I will be praying for both of you.
Prayers for both you and Mr. Mickey. So glad you have each other for support.
This news must have been hard to share, Susan. Given your healthy habits and early discovery, I am sure your outcome will be the very best. Nevertheless, candles will be lit.
Please tell Mr. Mickey that I had bladder cancer too and seem to be fine 12 years later. The beauty with this type of cancer is that the chemo was done in situ post op, and after that periodic testing was done. Still, candles will be lit and I will be wishing you both great results.
So very sorry to hear about both of your health diagnoses. Sending positive thoughts and prayers for a smooth recovery. Your positive attitude will make such a difference in fighting this dreadful disease.
God bless.
I have been following you for quite a while and have enjoyed watching you put together beautiful outfits. You have a great talent and are a wonderful fashion mentor.
My heart goes out to you and Mr. Micki in your time of health trials. I wish you both speedy and complete recoveries.
God speed.
Carol

God bless you, both Susan and Mr. Mickey. Thank you for letting us know because we would worry. Wishing you both successful treatment. You and Sarah Ferguson are great role models for women’s breast care.
Your post brought tears to my eyes. You are dear to me. You are so brave and share your whole self with such graciousness and integrity. I pray that you and Mr. Mickey will feel how loved you are, even from afar, by those you may never meet. That all the good will and generosity of spirit you have shared with others will be returned to you. May God grant you both strength, hope, provision and peace. Blessings to you both on this journey of healing.❤️
Nearly all these comment refer to breast cancer or sympathy. I want to speak into bladder cancer. I have known two men with it who have lived many years, one decades and in his 90s and one who died of heart disease in mid 80s. Many kinds are highly treatable. I hope and pray that is the kind Mr Micky has.
Susan, There is now even more being asked of you. You have so many dear friends here, people you may never meet but God put you and Mr. Mickey into their lives for a reason. God gave you both many gifts of communication and healing. I’ll look forward to hearing your updates–including regarding your parents. Many prayers.
Dear Susan,
Thank you for sharing this sad news; I will be praying for a full and complete recovery for you and Mr. Mickey. You are a bright light for all who know you and read your blog.
Take care of yourself and let us know how you’re doing when the time is right. Breast cancer is an insidious disease.. my 45 year old daughter had a spot caught by her mammogram . We are so thankful for the medical knowledge of today…and know you’ll be in good hands.
Susie

Susan — You and Micky are in my thoughts and prayers. Best wishes to you both for healthy recoveries.
I’m so sorry you 2 are going through this. I’m sending you healing wishes for complete and quick recovery. I know this is scary and daunting; please know there are many of us out here pulling for you.
Best of luck to you both. My husband succumbed to pancreatic cancer. It was fast and gave us little time but we had sweet goodbyes with him telling me he would be waiting for me in Heaven. It has only been a couple of weeks and I cry everyday- I miss him terribly.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Sharon. I hope the sweet memories of your time together will sustain you.

Hello Susan,
I have subscribed to your site and email updates for a few years. I greatly enjoy it and have learned so much from you! I admire your style and have duplicated several of your combinations. Thank you!
I am so sorry to hear about your breast cancer. I had breast cancer 8 years ago. Because of the location of it in the breast, the surgeon was concerned that with a lumpectomy that I would have a good outcome in appearance of the breast. So he recommended a mastectomy w/reconstruction. I did not want to always be continually uneasy about the risk developing cancer in the other breast, so I chose to have a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery. I am very happy with my decision and the results are great. I will pray for wisdom for you in making the best decision and for the Lord to give you peace. The only think that really got me through that difficult time was my faith. I pray that you are a believer in Jesus as well.
I will pray for both of you for a full recovery. Thank you for sharing.
Wishing you and Mr Mickey all the very best as you embark on your health care journeys. Cancer is such a scary diagnosis but your early detection and positive attitude will stand you in good stead as you begin your treatments. Loving thoughts from .

Praying for you and Mr. Mickey to have a speedy return to health. Will miss your posts but understand that your health is most important. God bless you both.

I live in Green Mountain, NC six months of the year and in Florida for six months. Following your travels has opened up many possibilities for sightseeing and exploring for my husband and for me. You may not be aware of how you have impacted so many people and how they feel they know you personally.
I just wanted you to know I’ll be praying for both you and Mr Micky. The power of prayer is awesome and you have no idea how many of your followers will be praying for you to have strength in your journeys toward healing.
God bless you both

You and Mr Mickey will continue be in my Prayers.
I cannot tell how how much of an inspiration you are.
Susan,
I’m so sorry to hear this news about you and Mr. Mickey. You have both been successful because you are fighters and you both will win this fight. I have been meeting to write because I was recently shopping and saw a a vibrant colored blouse with a large print. I loved it but didn’t buy it because of your advice. I said to myself “ what would Susan do?” And I know you would pass! I would have tired of it before the end of the season. Take care and I wish you well. Putting you in my prayers. Prayers will get you through this new journey.
Life comes at us like a quick rainstorm on a sunny day. It is all part of a journey; we
never know when things might come up that we weren’t expecting. I am sorry to hear that you both are going through some health concerns. It is so good that you are proactive in living a healthy lifestyle and getting regular checkups and exams. Wishing you both positive days ahead with strength, love, and support from family, friends, and all of us on your site. It is time to make yourselves a priority and we look forward to your return to whatever you enjoy.
Hi, Susan —
My God give both your and Mr. Mickey’s medical teams great insight and wisdom in your treatments, may you respond well to those treatments, and may God give you both strong healing capacities!
As a result of your post, I checked to see when my next mammogram was scheduled – and I’d forgotten to schedule it! So, I just got off the phone from making my annual mammogram appointment – and they have an availability next week.
Thank you for sharing your challenges, as well as your ability to look and feel your best! I’ve been following your blog, emails, and videos for about two years and you’ve helped me so much! Thank you again, and may God bless you beyond your hopes!

May you both be blessed with healing on your journey together. Thankful you can support each other.
Sorry to hear you news. I will be praying for you and Mr. Mickey.
Prayers for both of you.
Prayers for you both.
Susan, I will keep you and Mr. Mickey in my prayers. God bless you both.
I am so sorry you and Mr. Mickey are going through such a challenging time. My thoughts and prayers are with both of you. Listening to your body is key. I developed a dry cough that I haven’t been able to shake. My doctor said he’d order a chest x-ray, I requested a CT chest. It was an instinct. The scan showed I have a 10mm nodule and another nodule that looks suspicious. I see the pulmonologist on Wed and a biopsy will be scheduled. My gut told me something wasn’t right with my body. My husband had a carcinoma in his lung 2 yrs ago. Thankfully, the cancer was contained but, he was home for 4 days when he developed a fever. I raced him to the ER and he was diagnosed with Sepsis. He was within hours of dying. He was left with a brain injury. So, going down this road again is not without angst. Susan, please keep us posted on how you are both doing. You and Mr. Mickey have got this! Go kick Cancer’s butt!
Dear Susan and Mr. Mickey, Sending prayers for both of you as you undergo treatments for your cancer. May your health be restored, may your physicians have wisdom and skill, and may any side effects be tolerable. All the best for a full recovery.
As a happy follower of your blog I have had so much pleasure from it all.
I believe in the power of prayer and will keep you and your precious Mr. Mickey in my daily prayers and await a wonderful outcome for this Chapter in you’re lives.
As a happy follower of you’re blog and having received so much pleasure from it please know that I’m a believer of the power of prayer, therefore I will be praying daily for a positive outcome for both you and yours precious Mr. Micky!
I don’t usually leave replies but I have always enjoyed your views and encouraging words as we go through the process of aging. Just know that you and Mr. Mickey will be in my prayers for your cancer treatments and many good times together when you recover.
Your spirit is encouraging to so many women. You will never know how many women you have helped to make important decisions. God bless you and Mr. Mickey. My husband was diagnosed with bladder cancer six years ago. It was invasive enough that he had to have his bladder removed, but, praise God he is alive and well.
I know that in light of your more serious issues this is a “non important” question. My husband has been wearing saddle shoes like Mr. Mikey for 60 years. Lately all of his are wearing out. He is having trouble finding a new pair. Does Mr Mikey have any suggestions for purchasing new ones?
Please know you are both in my prayers for complete recovery.
I think he bought his at Zappos.
Wishing you the best during your treatment and recovery. Sending you healing thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry to hear that both you and Mr. Mickey have been diagnosed with cancer. I am a cancer survivor (melanoma,) as are several members of my immediate family. My sister is celebrating two years’ remission from her own bout with breast cancer. We are fortunate to live near MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, which is one of the foremost cancer-treatment facilities in the world. Doctors have achieved miracles with modern cancer treatments, so I am confident I will soon be enjoying your blog posts again. In the meantime, you and Mr. Mickey will be in my thoughts.
I am sending you and Mr. Mickey my prayers for a complete recovery for both of you!
Susan Harris
I wish you and Mr. Mickey the very best!…..
Dear Susan,
You and Mr. Mickey will be in my prayers. I’m a breast cancer survivor of 12 years. I believe that you, too, will survive this despite the sometimes daunting path that treatment can take. One day at a time, one decision at a time, one step at a time. Your healthy habits and bright outlook will serve you well. You and Mr. Mickey are both beautiful souls, and this trial will only serve to strengthen you even more! Who knows how many people you will meet and strengthen along the way? God Bless!
Sharon O.
Best wishes with your health challenges. I look forward to seeing your fashions when you return. I enjoy your posts so much!
Oh, Susan. I’m so sorry to hear both of you have bad news to share. We will all be pulling for you and praying for you. Just had my annual mammogram last week. Have had a couple scares in the past with extra imaging and biopsies but so far, I have been fortunate. Had another kind of scare recently that I still don’t know the results of yet, going in for more testing next week. My doctor thanked me for coming in so quickly. She said sometimes patients say it’s been happening off and on for 2 or 3 years.
My husband of 58 years and I often end up matching and most times don’t even realize it until someone else points it out. Some times we remember to ask when getting dressed “what color are you wearing?”
Looking forward to hearing updates on both of you real soon. Sending positive thoughts your way.
Prayers for both you and Mr. Mickey for healing and a speedy recovery.
Susan, I am so sorry to read this. I will keep both you and Mr. Mickey in my prayers for speedy recoveries.
Sincerely, Sue

Susan- I have followed your page for several years and admired your style and practical suggestions. Please know that you and Me Mickey will certainly be in my prayers.
Susan: Wishing you a speedy and full recovery. When I was a practicing pathologist (retired 6 years ago), breast cancer was one of my specialties. If you ever have a question or need explanations etc. please feel free to reach out. I know you are in good health and I have every reason to think you will weather this and outlive it, with grace and strength. Best, Jacki
Wishing you all the best on your journey. I have recently gone through the same experience and I am just about to start radiation treatment. I support your call to have regular mammograms as my can also could not e detect without the mammogram. I have had wonderful support.
Sending healing prayers for Mr. Mickey and you.
Dearest Susan
Thank you so much for telling us about your challenges and health. We will be with you in good times and in bad times and send you healing thoughts. You will both recover, but have a little hard time ahead of you.
Much love from Denmark,
Astrid
Dearest Susan and Mr Mickey , I sent a comment a few days ago when they were at about 200, I think I forget to press submit . But now look over
700 and such an outpouring of love , care and good wishes. The comments are lovely so I will go along with every one and the love they are sent
to you both.
Stay strong, stay safe we are all with you along the way.
Pamela from Wales UK x
I have been through the same thing. First a suspicious mammogram. Then a needle biopsy, then a lumpectomy. Luckily mine was benign. But I have atypical cells and have follow ups every six months.
Take care of your self and know that you are in my prayers for a good recovery.
Susan :I am so sorry to hear of your health challenges. My very bestt wishes to you and Mr Mickey as you support each other through the next weeks and months. Thank you for all you have done over the years to brighten my days.
I’m so sorry your book of life contains this difficult chapter. Sending prayers that you are both well very soon!
Are we not always on the “next chapter”, Susan? Just celebrated Golden Anniversary and our next chapter also unfolding. You and Mr Mickey will meet the challenges together. Prayers, blessings and love
Many thanks for your sharing throughout the years. Terry
I am so sorry to read about your cancers. Praying for a total recovery for you both.
Susan, I’m so sorry to hear about your cancer discovery and Mr Mickey’s, too. You both take such good care of yourselves and have such a positive attitude, that I’m sure you’ll come through this with flying colors. I think a positive attitude will help you out of a lot of things ! For sure, you BOTH will be in my nightly prayers……..I begin my nightly prayer with asking for the health and happiness of my family and friends – you’ll definitely be in that list ! Then I thank GOD for all my many blessings, trying to think of all the big and little gifts we receive everyday………like fresh air, clean water, heated homes in the winter and cooled homes in the summer. Over the years, I thought I’d thought of every little thing I could thank GOD for, until I recently saw a Hallmark movie called THE MOST COLORFUL TIME OF THE YEAR………I had forgotten to be thankful for color ! The main character was color blind and the camera showed how he was seeing everything in black and white and varying shades of gray. How sad it all looked, until he put on some special glasses that helped with color blindness…….it brought tears to my eyes, just imaging how he felt !! If you get a chance to see it, it’s really good. Hugs to you both, Connie Briggs (your traveling friend from Anderson, SC).
Susan,
Thank you for your transparency in sharing what is happening in your life. I am sorry to read your most recent challenges along with Mr. Mickey’s. I hope the best for you both.

I wish you and Mr. Mickey all the best as you walk through this new territory. I was diagnosed with Lymphoma in July and it’s taken my head a while to process what is going on. I will forever be grateful for the researchers who continually work to provide us with the latest care. We are so fortunate.
My prayers go out to you both. We will be on the other side of this challenge!
I’m keeping you and Mr.Mickey in my thoughts and prayers, for quick recovery and healing.
I so enjoy your posts of style and fun excursions.
You and Mickey will be in my prayers for the best outcomes. Thank you for sharing your journey. It is encouraging to hear how others cope and can even thrive through adversity. Also, it just helps us learn more about the issues. Again, thank you.
Susan,
I have been following your blog for about 5 years now. Your posts have always been a highlight of my week!
You and Mr. Mickey will be in my thoughts and prayers as you both face these health challenges. Thank you for
taking us along on your journey through life in your 50’s and 60’s! Your story has been an inspiration to me, and I have
learned much about simplifying and organizing clothes and accessories, as well as healthy eating habits.
But, most of all, your positive attitude about life has inspired me each time I log on to your site.
Blessings and healing to you both!
Can’t wait to hear about this part of your journey when you have come through it!

Thoughts and prayers are with you both.
Dear Susan, I feel as though I know you personally. You and Mr Mickey will be in my prayers and positive thought.
s. Both of you having health issues at the same time will be challenging yet you have each other to get through this. I am a 26 year breast cancer and can appreciate your thoughts and feelings. I was 49 when diagnosed and had the same diagnosis as you. It can be overwhelming. take each day as it comes. and look ahead to the future. You have many people behind you and you will cope. God be with you both. A devoted follower of you. Connie Beck
I’m so sorry you are both going through medical issues. I was diagnosed in 2021 with dcis in the right breast and had a lumpectomy and a week of radiation. Luckily mine was caught early also. So many women are experiencing this because of the latest technology available. I wish you the very best in getting through this and hope Mr Mickey can get through this difficult time with his cancer. Be well.
I wanted to tell you that I was sad to read about you and Mr Mickeys recent diagnoses. I will miss your Susan After 60 but I know that this is not permanent and you will be back with it. And, you will be fine. I am sorry you have to go through all the treatments and stress that is involved. You both are in my prayers. Thanks for all the wonderful fashion , beauty and health tips over the years. Take care and be well soon!!
Sincerely, Patsy Manton
Susan

But taking care of yourself now is the most important thing you can pour into.
All the best
Dear Susan and Mr Mickey, so sorry to hear your news and sending you best wishes from New Zealand. If any couple can handle this challenge with style you are the perfect fit. Gail
My thoughts and prayers go with you both. Early diagnosis is key to beating all forms. I had stage 1 colon cancer 17 years ago. Caught early and survivor.
Best of luck to you and Mr.Mickey. Sending prayers and good thoughts.
I am keeping you and Mr. Mickey in my prayers for a full recovery! You are an inspiration to women everywhere and I wish you the best!
Sending prayers up for you and Mr. Micky and we all look forward to your praise reports. Keep a positive attitude as this is just a bump in the road. Sometimes life gives us challenges, but you’ve got this! I have followed you for many years and look forward to many more.
My sympathy to you both!
Please remember that you aren’t alone. You’re such a steady confident personality, I know that you’ll get through your diagnosis and treatment on an even keel. I’ve known a couple of men with Mr. Mickey’s situation and am happy to say that they’re still around. This will be a marathon, not a sprint for both of you. You’re lucky you have each other.
Susan,
I’m a long time follower.
I wish you and Mr Mickey both speedy and complete recoveries.
Sending prayers.

Thinking of you and mr Mickey and hoping things are going well for both of you. Keep doing things you love even during your treatments. I’ve had breast cancer twice and after my treatments I would try and find a fun , new store to explore… before I headed home for a nap! Both of you take care and know you have people wishing the best for you during this time. ❤️
Best wishes and speedy recovery for both of you. Take care of yourselves and each other. You both are in my prayers. This blog is the only blog I’ve read for years, and it feels like my old friends are ahead of a curve on a mountainous road. You two rest and get better! We’ll visit here soon.

Sending my best wishes and prayers for the safe and full recovery from the recent cancer diagnoses of both you and Mr. Mickey. Thank you for reminding us to get our annual physicals. Now that I am 73 years old, I was planning to skip my upcoming mammogram, but after your shared post, I will definitely make an appointment for my annual screening.
I particularly love the photo of you and Mr. Mickey in this post – you make a beautiful couple. Thank you for sharing these lovely photos as well. The view from these mountains is so beautiful.
Wishing you the best,
Chris

Susan,
Although this is a curve ball, I am confident that you will power through it with the poise, intelligence, and can-do-it attitude which you have exhibited throughout your blog! Both of you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Love and prayers through this trying time!
I look forward to seeing your posts again soon.
Jeanne Beker, a Canadian fashion personality, had a similar diagnosis a year ago. She documented her surgery and successful treatment on Instagram (thejeannebeker). I learned so much and think it was a great public service. My very best wishes to you and Mr. Mickey as you deal with your health.
Wishing the best for you and Mr. Mickey! I will keep you both in my prayers.
I will keep you and Mr. Mickey in my prayers. You two are a beautiful couple. Take care.
Susan –
You & Mr. Mickey are in my prayers. Hoping you all have full recoveries! We, your readers & supporters, will be here for you when you return to posting. Take the time you need, & take good care of yourselves!
Carol
Susan not sure if this is appropriate, but here I go. I have read with interest all of these responses. And while i know you l ultimately will do what you want, I have a perspective. I also have been recently diagnosed with a breast cance similar to yours. I am also a retired nurse. What i want to say is this is your journey, whatever treatment choices you choose. Whatever or whoever is your higher power, believe system or positive energy, ITS YOURS. Stay true to your values even if people don’t agree. If you don’t want people to know , that’s ok too. It’s YOUR JOIRNEY. For every negative bit of advice, remember there will be a positive response. Do what feels right for you. I wish you and Mr Mickey the bast recoveries with no issues. Stay positive and take pleasure in the small things in life like you already do. Love all that you do.
I’ve followed you for years and have learned so much about life. You both are in my prayers as you face these health challenges.
I have been a fan of yours for years, but now at 70, your story is my story, too. A friend gifted me “One Minute Prayers for Women with Cancer” by Niki Hardy. To paraphrase the book’s beginning, no matter how pulled together we normally are, we all need people around us when our world falls apart. God is a God of community, three in one, and because we are built in His image, we are wired for community. My prayer is one of hope, to become a part of your community and that of other women with breast cancer.

Susan, I read your posts and enjoy them, but rarely comment. Thank you for all your efforts over the years. Will pray for both you and Mr. Mickey to have the peace of God and will also ask for strength, and healing for full recoveries. Looking forward to hearing from you in the near future. Blessings to you both!
Susan, many prayers for you and Mr. Mickey as you travel this unfamiliar road together. You have brought so much joy to your blogging audience over the years, it is our honor to lift you up and pray for comfort and healing.
I stumbled upon your blog by accident and I’m so glad I did, as a woman over 60 living in the UK I was finding it harder and harder to find the right type of clothes, not the little bits of nothing and ultra high fashion for the 20 to 30s that all the shops have at the moment in the UK.
I find your outfits and advice uplifting and have made me look at things in a whole new way. thank you so much and I wish you both a speedy recovery.
I always enjoy your articles and have taken a lot of your advice on what to wear. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but fortunately the treatment for Breast Cancer is excellent. I wish you all the best. I am from Tallebudgera Valley, Queensland Australia
Susan, I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and Mr. Mickey’s as well, but very thankful that both of you have been diligent about regular check ups so that your cancers were found early! I know how scary those early days can be, but I also believe that you will do well and will be back to share more great tips with us before too long. Take as much time as you need though. Your loyal following will be here when you get back.
My husband and I have been on a similar journey as I have a chronic cancer that requires regular treatment and surveillance and he is recovering from prostate cancer surgery. Thankfully, we have been able to continue living a quality life in spite of the challenges.
Take good care of yourself and one another!
Susan you and Mr. Mickey will be in my prayers. Your support for one another will be a wonderful help as you travel along this journey together. I will look forward to seeing your entries when you have the time and energy to do so. Please take care of yourselves and each other.
Praying for quick and full recovery for both you and Mr. Mickey.
I am so very sorry to find out about your and Mr. Mickey’s health problems. My wish is that both of you have a full and speedy recovery. I enjoy your blog very much with all of your helpful information.
So glad that both you and Mr. Mickey caught these cancers early.
I wish you two a quick recovery from both.
I too, was diagnosed with early stage IDC last year after following a healthy lifestyle. ( That was a bit frustrating, but I rationalize that I might have gotten the diagnosis earlier had I not.) Following surgery and radiation, some regular acupuncture has helped me through the process. No matter what the stage, getting the cancer diagnosis can be a stressful. I know you both will be kind to yourselves as well as each other.
Sending hugs
Thank you for encouraging others to be diligent about getting their yearly exams and screenings. I received the same diagnosis as you years ago and, because of early detection, didn’t require radiation or chemotherapy, just a lumpectomy. I hope you and Mr. Mickey’s treatments go well and you are back posting soon.
Dear Susan,
So sorry to learn of your and Mr. Mickie’s diagnosis.
At the age of 72 I was diagnosed with a progressive form of DCIS as well. I am now 83 and doing well. I will be praying for a complete recovery for both of you.
Thank you for your very delightful emails over the years which I have enjoyed immensely and hope will continue when you’re ready. May God Bless you both and may He grant you peace and comfort at this time.
A joyful follower
Best wishes for a speedy recovery for you and Mr Mickey. There will be tough days ahead, try to remind yourself of how strong you are and how many obstacles you have overcome in the past. You can do this! Sending prayers.
Susan and Mr Mickey…you two are such a magnificent force to behold. With your love for each other, your support for each person’s personal interests like trying out restaurants/enjoying the beautiful countryside, you two will manage your health setbacks with care, diligence and intelligence. Please keep your readers posted with updates and know that we all care so much for the two of you. Wishing you only the best.

Susan, I am praying that the treatments for you and for Mr. Mickey are successful, and am sending positive thoughts for a quick and complete recovery.
Dearest Susan.
It took me a few days to comment. I wasn’t sure what to say. I still don’t. I’m so grateful for you and your page. I’m also thankful that you were vigilant with your screenings. I have absolutely no doubt that you will face this journey with grace and courage.
My husband was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer in May. I can empathize with what you’re going through. It’s exhausting at first, but then – acceptance and perseverance. Prayers for you and Mr. Mickey. I hope you consider “checking in” with us to let us know how you both are doing.
When feeling low, praise God for the blessings in your life. You will immediately feel lifted.
Thinking of you often. ❤️
Wishing you a full recovery and subsequent good health. I had a similar situation to yours in my early 60’s. The treatments were not pleasant in any sense of the term, but I recovered, am apparently cancer free now 12 years later and do not even think about it any more. I wish the same for you! Hang in there, take care of yourself and I will look forward to your posts in the future when you feel up to it. I am also very sorry to hear about Mr. MIckey’s diagnosis and wish him the best on his medical journey. May you both provide support and comfort care to each other during a difficult time.
I wish you and Mr. Mickey all the best. You are bright lights in this world. I will be thinking of you both.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Mickey. Heartfelt wishes for a quick recovery.

Wishing you both a speedy recovery! I am a longtime follower & a past cancer survivor… I also had the same cancer diagnosis as you in 2017 and am cancer free today. I just called it a small bump in the road of life. Having a positive outlook as you have already will help in the recovery period, seems like a long road at the time but take each day as it comes!
All the best to you both,
Marsha
