The Grove Park Inn

Asheville, North Carolina, offers abundant options for enjoying a day off. Thankfully, it is only about an hour’s drive from my home.

On Sunday, we spent the afternoon at The Omni Grove Park Inn enjoying their sumptuous brunch in the Blue Ridge dining room. It is a farm-to-table artisanal buffet overlooking the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains.

The resort offers many dining and shopping opportunities. We spent the rest of the afternoon window shopping, enjoying the view, and visiting with some of the other guests in the Great Hall.

We’ve enjoyed many hours relaxing in their world-class top-rated Spa.

The original stone structure is more than one hundred years old.

Enjoy breathtaking views of the Asheville skyline and the Blue Ridge Mountains beyond.

There is a chance you will see bears or various other wildlife while driving through the neighborhoods surrounding the Inn.

My statement necklace is by Petra Meiren, a prominent jewelry designer from Germany. I found it on a previous visit to Asheville at Caravans.

The periwinkle ruffle sleeve top is from the spring collection by Clara Sunwoo. The pull-on white jeans are by Lior Paris, both via Shop My Fair Lady.

Nordgreen bands are easy to switch, so I added the white band to my Native – Silver style watch. (Use the Nordgreen discount code SUSAN15)

  1. Thank you for the lovely comment. I am considering writing a book in the near future. I avoid wearing ruffles on the front of my shirt since they add volume visually. I don’t mind a ruffle detail on a sleeve.

  2. I’ve especially enjoyed this series of posts. I do have a couple of questions. Do you feel the top runs true to size?
Also, this is a crazy question but I have an issue. Is there a remedy for bra straps. I have been measured etc, etc. I have
the worst time keeping straps from falling off my shoulders. Very annoying.
    Thanks.

    1. Carolyn, I have sloping shoulders and fought this for many years. I’ve been wearing the Shapeez bras that Susan writes about for three years and not only has that problem been solved, but they are the most comfortable bras I’ve ever worn.

  3. We have fun family memories of visits to The Grove Park Inn. My first visit was a professional conference. My boss was friends with William Cecil and we were treated to dinner in the wine cellar of Mr. Cecil’s home. However I had late night drinks with colleagues on the Inn’s immense stone veranda. What a special place. It was autumn and I wore a shapeless burgundy velvet dress, wish I had been following your blog in the 90s, Susan, I would have been better dressed.

  4. We used to live a couple of hours from the grove park inn. We’d get up some Sunday’s and drive up for the brunch. We probably wouldn’t do it anymore as the prices are very high and frankly we just don’t eat like that anymore. But we do love it and I can relive those memories through your blog. Thank you.

  5. As always, I’ve enjoyed reading your blog. I’ve learned a great many ideas from your posts.
The blue top looks very good with your coloring. I’ve decided to stop dying my hair dark and now it seems my coloring is changing. Colors I’ve worn in the past don’t seem to go with my “new” silver hair. You were probably blonde in your younger life, but I am still getting great ideas from you about colors. Thank you for sharing with us. And thank you for the great pictures today. I hope to get there one day.

  6. Oh my goodness, I am planning a trip to Asheville next month & this hotel was recommended. It looks delightful and so do you! Now I must book it.

  7. My two daughters and I were at The Grove Park Inn two weeks ago. A stately structure that stands the test of time…

    1. If you wear shoes that show the top of your foot, then pants should be ankle length. Here’s a styling tip, when the ankles, wrists, and collarbones show, it looks more current and much cooler in warm weather.

  8. I agree with the post that urges you to write a book—We will buy it! I noticed in one picture you have beautiful hands! I didn’t take good care of mine and I wish I had. Any tip for hand creams?

  9. Hi Susan, I really enjoy your blog on fashion, etc. as well as your wonderful photos of the various towns & scenery. We live in Vancouver, BC and would like to visit North & South Carolina sometime in the near future. Is there a particular time of year you would recommend? Thank you

  10. I don’t know how you have the energy to do all the things you do. You are amazing. I love this whole outfit. Blue and white are such a peaceful combination and I love the necklace and shoes. Metallic shoes are just the lift needed to take something from basic to interesting.
I love the Carolinas and the people. We went there to help after hurricane Hugo and hated to leave.

  11. I have a renewed interest in fashion. My goal is to remove all Mamaw clothes from my closet. Thank you for all the fashion ideas, the links to find the clothes and the travel ideas!

  12. We just left the Grove park inn.
We had dinner at the Edison but a huge rain storm hit & nearly ruined our evening but we persevered. We have reservations at the Sunset terrace this Sunday.
We’re driving up to Blowing Rock tomorrow.

  13. Yes! The Grove Park Inn, one of my alltime favorites since retiring to Charlotte from Michigan a few years ago!,
