We enjoyed our West Virginia visit so much last fall that Mr. Mickey chose it as his 85th birthday getaway.
Historic small towns with bookstores, coffee shops, art galleries, and various unique shops hold a special allure for us. Picturesque Lewisburg, located in the Greenbrier Valley, was our destination for the weekend.
Rain fell as we arrived on Friday evening, so we took a brief walk to peer in the windows on the way to dinner.
Food & Friends is a delightful Lewisburg restaurant located at the edge of town on Washington Street. We had not made reservations because we didn’t know when we might arrive. The host was very kind to seat us without them.
Neither of us enjoys a large quantity of food late in the day, so we shared a delicious appetizer of spinach and artichoke along with a glass of wine. Mr. Mickey had never had bread pudding made with croutons, so that was his nightcap.
My travel look included dark wash Levi’s jeans (here), a white tank (here), and a white linen jacket (similar here). The sandals are here. The ecru Dooney & Bourke bag is here.
The blog posts this week will share pictures from our trip and a recap of what I wore. My packing goal is always to have something appropriate and comfortable to wear from the fewest number of items.
What a delight to read your blog this morning and see that you had visited my hometown. Please return again, there is always something interesting to do and/ or beautiful to see. This coming weekend is our annual tour of historic homes. Food and Friends is always a favorite place to dine.
Thank you for visiting one of the coolest small towns in the country. Come back real soon. ❤️
I was excited to read today’s post when I saw the mention of West Virginia.
I was born in West Virginia and have family living there. And so, I was excited to see where you were traveling.
Beautiful country indeed!
Susan, based on your list of criteria for places you like to visit, I know you would love Galena, Illinois. It’s not a few hours for you, but might work as a destination when you have more time to spend. Happy Birthday to Mr. Mickey.
Happy birthday Mr Mickey! – what a lovely little town! Susan, your outfit is very appropriate and easy to reproduce with closet basics! Very neat and pretty.
I so enjoy this blog!
Another thing that really enhances your look is your excellent posture. It makes you look so much more youthful and attractive. This is something most of us could really use some help with…..a small thing with huge impact.
Susan, you look lovely as always! Happy Birthday to Mr. Mickey. There is also a lovely town named Lewisburg in my area of Pennsylvania. It has lovely shops, great restaurants and is the home of Bucknell University.
I’m so glad that you and Mr. Mickey enjoyed Lewisburg, WV, where we reside during the summer months. As Texans, we were looking for a get-away from the unbearable summer heat in south Texas, and we discovered the “coolest small town in America,” and absolutely love spending 3 or 4 months a year here at our house on a mountain ridge just outside Lewisburg.
May I recommend a few places for your next visit? For delicious French cuisine, an extensive wine list, and a beautiful atmosphere, try The French Goat. The Harmony Ridge Gallery, next door to Food and Friends, is an eclectic, fun shop with local artisan wares for sale.. And, to satisfy your shoe cravings, Yarid’s, which is right across the street from Food and Friends, is brimming with shoes for everyone’s style and size.
Perhaps you will return to Lewisburg, and I’ll see you at one of my favorite local places. Thanks for visiting!
Best regards,
Tina Butler
Susan, you look especially pretty and happy in these photos. Love the whole look you put together. Happy Birthday to Mickey! Whenever I see his smile and twinkling eyes in your blogs, I can’t help smiling back at the computer!
I adore Lewisburg, and have spent many a girlfriends’ weekend there, including enjoying a performance at the adorable little theater! Great food, shopping, history and scenery – who could want for more?
Dear Susan,
The Chico’s tank that the link sends me to is a scoop neck. Are you sure your weren’t wearing the Express Downtown Cami? I’ve never found a non-clingy V -neck cami at Chico’s. I’m hoping I can wear more clingy tanks after my Shapeez arrives. Losing weight leave such a wasteland of lumps. Or should I say waistland, heh heh! I know this is a very old post and maybe links change?

You are so right! Thank you for pointing out my mistake. I have both styles of tanks and wear them often. I get a size large in the Chico’s tank and a size medium in the Express Downtown Cami. The cami has two layers, and the Chico’s tank is a single layer of thicker material.
