Wheels Through Time Museum

After checking out of The Windover Inn located in Waynesville, North Carolina, we traveled just a few minutes away to Maggie Valley to visit a unique museum.

Mr. Mickey started riding motorcycles in 1948, and he is definitely a car guy. Knowing that he would thoroughly enjoy visiting the famous Wheels Through Time Museum, I asked him to take me there. The Wheels Through Time Museum was featured in the hit reality TV show “American Restoration” on the History Channel this year.

We started the day with breakfast at the Inn. I wore White House|Black Market jeans in honor of our casual outing. These are the Slim Jeans. I could never get actual skinny jeans on over my muscular calves. The shoes are old by Nine West. Before we entered the museum, I switched from heels to flat sandals by Vince Camuto.

I was fascinated by this tandem bicycle. The rims, the fenders, and several other parts of the bike were made from wood!

Mr. Mickey did indeed enjoy looking at the vast array of items.

We were fortunate to be present when the museum founder Dale Walksler shot a video in the store area. Afterward, we waited for our turn to talk with him. What a great guy! When he found out about Mr. Mickey’s world-famous collection of fine antique Mickey Mouse toys, he invited us into his office to show us an animated Mickey in a car that was once used at Disneyland. We became fast friends and now look forward to showing him and his lovely wife around when they come to Johnson City.

I hope you have enjoyed coming along with us on our most recent weekend adventure. The second fifty years are turning out to be way better than the first!

  1. Hi Susan. For those of us who have to shop mostly online, could you compare your Chico’s jeans size with WHBM size? I find Chico’s to be fairly consistent for me at .5 but not that familiar with WHBM lines. Thanks. ❤️

    1. In jeans, I wear a size 00 at Chico’s, a size 4 at White House|Black Market, and a size 2 at NYDJ. I hope this helps you to figure out what size you need to order.

  2. My husband likes old cars as well. We have a 72 red vw convertible (old to us). He puts his golf clubs in the back – and off he goes to play. It’s a fair weather car.

  3. What a fun outing, especially for Mr Mickey! One of the most interesting car museums I was ever in was the Auburn Museum in Auburn Indiana. The gentleman who escorted us remembered his dad having one of the cars. He was most charming and informative.

  4. What a great place to visit. We love vintage vehicles, too. You are lucky to get to travel so much and always look great while you’re having fun.

  5. Isn’t that place awesome! We visited there on our motorcycles a couple of years ago with some fellow bikers and the folks there were so very friendly. The owner followed up out and checked out our bikes and told us how much he appreciated our group visiting the museum.

You look so dang snappy every single day!

  6. Susan, I’m 60 years old and am soooo happy to find your site. When I first found it I spent several days reading everything you’ve posted. You are absolutely beautiful and I love your casual (even when dressy) not over the top style. You always look elegant! I found this Clara Sunwoo top online and plan to order it. Are the sizes pretty true to standard? I wear J. Jill a lot, too, and usually wear a large but sometimes a medium. I’m thinking a large in this top should work. Any advice? Thanks!!!

P.S. Mr. Mickey is adorable, too!

  7. My son and I would love to visit there. We are both wheel buffs. Love your casual look. You still manage to look dressy and chic even more n jeans.
