A Weekend In Highlands

During the morning of day two of our wonderful weekend away in Highlands, North Carolina, we enjoyed a splendid breakfast in Madison’s located in the Old Edwards Inn. Afterward, we spent some time shopping and strolling around the village.

The bread lover had pancakes. I had the granola and plain yogurt (both made there at Madison’s) with fresh berries. We also shared a fresh-made bagel with cream cheese.

The images below provide a tour around the front of the Inn.

I purchased a replacement tank for the one I am wearing by Chico’s, a couple of years old. It is always good to have a similar backup for the classic basics you enjoy wearing most often. Honestly, I have been looking for another one for about a year, so I was thrilled when I saw this one. I also bought a lightweight bangle bracelet set, which can be worn with a watch or alone. Later in the day, I visited “Spoiled Rotten,” another of my favorite shops located in the village. There I purchased my new favorite bra, which is the long Tankee by Shapeez. It is wise to find a shop that carries these in your area because it is best to try them if you are buying one for the first time. I love the smooth silhouette they provide, and they are by far the most comfortable bra I have ever worn.

During the first part of the day, I wore jeans and a silver-gray tank from Chico’s (both old) and a cashmere cardigan from J.Jill last year. The sandals are by Sofft, and the bag is by Antonio Melani; both are from Dillard’s. I am showing you how I wore a minimal number of pieces during this series during our weekend get-away. Those items are shown again below.

We spent the afternoon in the Spa getting much-needed massages. Thankfully, no cameras are allowed!

Watch for the final post in this series tomorrow morning. There are too many pictures to add them all here.

  1. Wonderful post, thank you so much Susan! I wish I could eat more like you but then I see Mr Mickey’s choice – oh those delicious pancakes … mmmmm

  2. Breakfast looks delicious – it is one of my favorite meals! The photos are delightful to see, thanks for taking us along to this beautiful place.

  3. So glad you found another silvery grey tank. I purchased one from Chicos several yrs ago..wish I had bought several! I seem to be wearing more grey items these days. Enjoy bangles & cuffs as well..maybe too much!; I have a similar bangle to the open one you sometimes wear with the pearl endcaps.. and it seems to go with about everything. The shop architecture & fittings in your photos etc are so pretty..and all the plantings look so healthy. Looks like you had a really nice time in a beautiful place. Thx!

  4. Each post makes this more wonderful. Looking forward to seeing your 2nd evening and 3rd day adventures. Glad to hear you are still purchasing Shapeez; you got me hooked!

  5. Thank you for the tour of the inn. Gorgeous landscaping. I’m interested in learning about the ways to wear a white shirt. I look forward to those posts. I have the same pair of Sofft shoes-very comfortable. Glad you had a relaxing birthday week.

  6. Wonderful holiday! You definitely look younger in a soft sweater. At 68, I have given up my blazers. I think they look harsh on me–too structured.
At any rate, one of the most wonderful outfits yet on you!

    1. That’s an interesting thought about the jackets vs. a cardigan. I feel that a cardigan without structure makes me look older, certainly not younger. I doubt I will ever give up my blazers because I feel most confident and well dressed in a sharp blazer no matter what else I am wearing.

  7. I so enjoy sharing your wonderful mini-vacations, Susan. What a fabulous getaway. Hope you had the happiest of birthdays!

  8. Thank you for taking us on your trips. I have never been to your part of the country ( in Calif.) it sure is pretty and green. I love your choices of outfits and I am going to look for that book for myself.

  9. I always enjoy seeing photos of your trips and outfits. You are certainly helping me to think more carefully about my future clothing purchases. I especially like the gray cardigan and tank you are wearing. Looking forward to your next post!
