Saturday Afternoon Casual

“Where do you start as you plan a look?” Some form of that question is often asked. The answer may be shoes, as in the case of Mr. Mickey today, or a handbag I want to carry.

On Saturday, we enjoyed a lovely lunch overlooking the water at the Riverfront Seafood Company in Kingsport. Our first stop was Church Circle to take a few photos. I regretted that I had forgotten my sunglasses all day.

I adore the combination of lime green and navy blue; however, wearing green near my face is never attractive. Instead of wearing green or brown animal prints near my face, I add those details using accessories.

My air-dry, messy hair is still a work in progress, but some of you asked to see the back. I dry the roots on top with a vented brush and then let the rest dry entirely before shaking it out. I haven’t been a curly girl in such a long time, and I’ve forgotten how to style it.

Mr. Mickey bought his sneakers two years ago, but they were still unworn. Since the restaurant is very casual, we agreed to dress down. Most folks wore shorts, tees, and sneakers or flip-flops.

The sock choice is the fun element that completes every casual look for Mr. M.

Nothing we are wearing is new, so there aren’t many links to share. Here is my classic shirt and jeans. My handbag is here. A similar pair of sandals is here, and a similar belt is here.

  1. I like your hair with a bit of natural curl. It’s a nice change and looks very pretty. There’s nothing better than a white shirt and dark wash jeans as a foundation for your outfit for the day. The accessories add the punch to make it special. I love the handbag in green. And of course, there’s Mr. Mickey with his signiture fun socks! Enjoy the upcoming week!

  2. I love your style! Simple and elegant is refreshing.
Have you tried the Curly Girl Method for people with wavy or curly hair? It can be found on Youtube. It really works!

  3. Thanks for sharing. I also love blue and green together but hadn’t thought of lime – I see here that it works well! Your hair looks lovely in these photos.

  4. I too often start an outfit by selecting what shoes are suitable for the occasion. I live out in the country so typically if an event is outside, I take care to understand what the ‘footing’ is so I’m not (looking like a goofus) trying to walk around in heels. There’s a trend by event sites to cover walkways in wood chips and I discovered the hard way that sandals don’t protect my bare toes from splinters and small sticks that can get stuck. So I’m with Mr. M by choosing footwear and building from there! BTW his sneakers are good lookin’ on him 🙂

  5. Ahhhh Susan,

You are a breath of fresh air every time I open a new post. Love your hair … the length looks terrific on you. I like the idea of sometimes dressing “around” a piece you love and plan to wear.

    Keep up the inspiring work!

  6. I love the lime green handbag! I’ve been admiring them for years but haven’t purchased because I didn’t know if I would get enough use out of it. Now you have planted the seed to plan the outfit around the item I may want to wear most that day. I’m ordering a lime green handbag!

  7. Susan, I have really enjoyed your posts this summer. My husband and I need to go check out the places you visited in NC. Love the idea of letting the hair air dry during the summer. Humidity and I have been having a fist fight, and I have lost. Excited to transition to fall clothing, but it’s a long way off, it seems, here in the south. Oh, and your childhood pictures were adorable!

  8. Susan, you both look so happy! I always look forward to your emails. Of course, your outfits are great too! 😉 And I agree, shoes are the first consideration when planning an outfit.

  9. Hi, last week you wore fab straight jeans in denim blue and the dark indigo this week with white shirt is just great.
I haven’t any indigo ones in my wardrobe must get a pair. I like these more for autumn and winter .
Mr Micky looks a cool dude as you say in America .

  10. I love your natural hair! I’m not a fan of stiff or straight which makes me think I need a new stylist! I walk in there with a mostly natural wavy ‘do and always walk out with a stick-straight one that looks flat by the next day. Plus I can’t ever get that same look styling it myself. Hmm. I also love your casual look and the green accent.

  11. What a nice day in Kingsport. I used to go there when I lived in the area. What a nice town.
I really like the white shirt and jeans with the touch of color. Sometimes a little color is all we need.
Also I do like your longer and casual look of your hair.

  12. Susan, you always looks so pretty and happy. You know who you are and that is a great thing in life! Keep going and Mr. Mickey too.

  13. Love your curlier hair!!! It’s so cute and you look adorable in the photo we’re you’re smiling!

  14. Hi Susan I love your outfit as usual and as for your curly hair it’s gorgeous the length is great. My hair is so straight it’s crazy it takes styling to a whole new level every morning. I do air dry my hair from time to time but have to sort the front out later with the hair dryer.
Mr Mickey looks like a young man with his trainers and I won’t mention the fabulous socks.
Thank you for the inspirational posts I absolutely love them.
God bless you and Mr Mickey.

  15. Love the looks you wrote about. I love it that you let your hair air dry especially when it’s humid. I do that a lot in the summer. The only thing I have done is that I like it graduated on the sides so it’s not just straight across the front and back. I cut my own hair so I just lift up the front sides to the top of my head and cut straight across when it’s up in the air. Works well and nothing to figure out. Just gives a softer side and still able to pull back in a pony or wear barrettes for a different look and get my hair out of my face.
Hi to Mr. Mickey with the Mickey socks!

  16. I love peachy orange and don’t wear it near my face. My new purse matches your lime, green one and it’s peachy orange. Love the look.

  17. Both your casual outfits look lovely. I hope you enjoyed your day.
