A Lunch Date Look

Keeping in touch with friends is essential for a healthy, well-lived life. Having lunch with my sweet friend, Belinda, is always a delight. We solve the world’s problems and talk about recipes, jewelry, outfits, and the details of our lives. When we spend time together, I always learn something new and gain a better perspective on life’s challenges.

By the end of the day, we had a light dusting of snow, so I wore wool pants and a sweater to lunch. The double-faced wool jacket I showed you last year was the perfect complement to the animal print bag.

Dressing in thin layers is the key to staying warm in cold weather without adding bulk. When the weather turns even colder, my choice for long underwear is here and here.

The pointed-toe slingback shoes were just the right height with the pants. The wider the pant leg, the longer the pants should be.

The handbag here is the only new item in my look. The bold ring is from T.J.Maxx last year and the belt is here. Similar wool pants are here. The forever sweater is here. A similar jacket is here. The earrings are here. The shoes are here. Shopping links may allow me to earn a small commission without costing you anything.

I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving with family and friends.

  9. Susan,
Would you write a bit about earrings and how you decide which ones to wear with what outfit? I have WAY too many earrings and am trying to simplify my life in all areas and jewelry is one area where I know I just need basics and I can donate the rest. Thanks, Susan, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    1. I like to wear small, barely noticeable earrings with dramatic necklaces. When I wear large earrings, I most often pair them with dramatic bracelets.

  10. Love your outfits and ideas. I recently retired from a corporate office job, I tried looking nice while at the office. ( Post Covid was able to work from home).
Now I find out I need a hip replacement due to arthritis so worrying about a dressy flat shoe. Any ideas would be helpful since no more heels.
    Thanks

  11. You look just terrific! And I love it that you chose wool pants, not jeans. So much better. Thank you for all you do for all of us.

  18. Love your new bag. It will be a nice Christmas present for myself. I have followed you for some time and love the way you dress. So easy but very put together. I am very interested in how you eat. I have been doing research to eat better. I feel better when I do. I would like to know how you learned just what to eat and how it all works. Did you read any books I could purchase.

    1. I try to eat mostly plants and I don’t do much too them. Wash them, cut them up and arrange them is my favorite way to eat raw veggies. I also eat cooked beans, steamed broccoli, and baked sweet potatoes. I’ve read lots of books but “Eat To Live” was my first and best one so far. It is by Dr. Joel Fuhrman.

  19. What are you thoughts on getting your colors done? I had mine first done in the 80s but now with my gray hair, could they possibly be different?

  20. You look wonderful as usual. Getting together with girlfriends is so important in life. Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family.

  21. I’m giving thanks for you and your blog this Thanksgiving! Have a wonderful holiday with your family and Mr. Mickey!

  22. Hi Susan, for some reason I’m not getting your posts? Haven’t rec’d last 4.. Can you add me to your list? Thanks Linda from Ontario Canada.

    1. I have to switch to a new ISP. However, they can only install it in mid-December. More than fifteen hundred folks have not been getting the newsletter lately because my old ISP will not stop blocking them. I apologize for the issues.

  23. True words as always. Looking beautiful. Thanks for sharing your tips. Hope you and yours have a thanksgiving full of blessings

  24. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Your explanations of what and why you wear are so helpful. I admire your elegance while you dress for the weather, thank you.

  25. Hi Susan – I wanted to thank you for pointing out the Forever sweater in this post and a previous one. I don’t like buying things online, especially for the first time since I’m never sure of the fit. I bought a v-neck in two sizes and was able to return the smallish one for free! And I’ve since bought one of the crew neck sweaters as well. They are a perfect weight for the Fall and will serve me well when layered in the winter months. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

  26. I am thankful for your blog, Susan, and always look forward to each new article! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

  27. Another nice look and some more good ideas. Simple but very nice. Just what I like. I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving. I just want to thank you for taking the time to help us look better everyday.

  28. Sigh, as always, YOU look stunning. Love the look on you and one I will emulate but not with the wide leg for me. I am shrinking and wide leg pants make me look fat and dumpy but on you, ooh la la! I couldn’t copy the first picture to put in my album, but was able to do the lower one to remind me how you put the accessories together to make you look awesome. When I study your pictures and follow most with some adjustments, I get a lot of compliments. So once again, thank you for taking the time to show your pictures and the reason you wear and why is very informative to me.

PS in your last blog, could you let us know where you purchased the necklace you are wearing. I thought your friend from Beauty in Stone made it but she said it was not one of her pieces.

  29. At Thanksgiving I am thankful for all you do to uplift women. I look forward to every blog and know how much thought you put into them. I appreciate you! Enjoy the holidays with your family and friends!

  30. Hi Susan! I love the look you featured in this post! It looks very classic and elegant, yet cozy. I see the Beauty Counter website is active again. Are you still a consultant, or did the company choose a different structure? If you could only buy one Beauty Counter item, what would you choose? Thanks!

  31. Black is your color, and your adorable smile, your signature. Perfect outfit, with the necessary pointed-toe pumps of course.
