Tank Dress 5 Ways #4

Nothing could be easier or cooler than a simple dress, which looks great no matter how you wear it. This week, I show you some ideas for how you could accessorize and style a navy tank dress in five very different looks.

The Levis denim jacket is from Dillard’s here. The shoes are Keds platform sneakers from Saks Off 5th similar here.

I added only a plain silver bangle bracelet similar here and plain silver hoop earrings similar here since I am going casual today. A fun fashion dome ring similar here. The bag is a no-name item I picked up in a gift shop earlier this year.

  1. I always think a denim jacket it a fabulous basic that works for women of any age! Heck, even my mom (the 80+ model on my blog) has one. They are such a great way to make a dress more casual!
And I love the sneakers with this too…talk about a modern way to stay comfie!!

  2. Thanks Susan! I bought the black version of this dress. Thanks for sharing the different ways to wear that dress. Since I’ve retired (early) I finds it is too easy to get into a clothing rut, wear Casual favourites, stop putting effort in dressing (even casual) , evev forget what I have in the closet because I don’t check

    Thanks Susan!

  3. I’ve always loved the combo of a long sundress with a jeans jacket — polished but also casual enough for every day. I usually wear a black dress rather than navy, but everything you’ve shown here would work with a similar black dress I own. Thanks for the tips, including the white shirt.

  4. Susan, I love your classic, timeless style and I find it is so useful to see how you put things together. Thank you for doing this.

  5. I have loved every one of these looks! Can’t wait for tomorrow’s version. I have a black “maxi” I wear often and especially when I travel. Think it is more comfortable than pants. I also have the sneakers and a denim jacket. Looking forward to to puthing them together.

I will be ordering the blue dress from your site but and have a question. I am 5’4” and think the short one would be too short but will probably have to shorten the long one. Can you offer a suggestions for where it should hit on my leg so I don’t look frumpy or shorter? Like I said, I’m 5’4” and will be ordering the XL or maybe even the XXL. I say this just to give you an idea of my “shape”.

Thanks for all the wonderful ideas you always give us.

    1. The short version might be best for you. I’m afraid the long one would be more of a maxi. Skirts should stop at the most slender part of your leg. The best length for you might be above or below the knee or a couple of inches above your ankle bone.

  6. I love all the looks. Thanks so much. I need to go shopping in my closet. I have similar pieces but don’t think of putting them together different ways.

  7. Thanks Susan, I never thought to add a denim jacket that way. You look fab in this outfit and it just goes to show that hitting 60 doesn’t have to make you look old at all/

  8. Love this idea of basics in different ways. I just ordered 2 similar tank dresses so I’m eager to see what they can do for my wardrobe – thanks for these!

  9. #2 and now #4 are just great on you,
I love them , they inspire me as you look so attractive , so young and relaxed.
There is nothing wrong with the others but when I see all of them next to each other , it seems to me so obvious which looks are the best. This is a great idea Susan….I should also take snaps of my different looks and put them next to each other to see what works for me.
Thank you. Have a good day.

  10. Love all your info and your look is very inspirational…we need to take time for ourselves!

Any hints of how to store jewelry….not diamonds and pearls just earrings, necklaces, large pins….also what
to keep and not keep in this senior stage of my life.

    Blessings.

    1. I use a tie rack on a small wall behind the door in my closet to hang necklaces. I put the other bits in a large jewelry box. I keep what is current and give away all the fashion jewelry that seems dated.

  11. I love this look the best so far! This series is so fun and informative. It’s a great idea! You should do it again, in the future.

  12. Love this versatility, Susan! I purchased a similar dress, years ago, from a travel store. I can’t tell you how many different ways I wore this dress; evening with a shrug or scarf, belted up to shorten it for day, tee over the top to create a skirt, tee under the top to create a jumper, on and on and on. I would love to purchase another from you, alas, black and navy are too dark for my warm coloring. Will you be stocking the short and long dress in your beautiful brown?

Thanks for the reminder of a long lost, wonderful, wardrobe basic.
    a faithful fan,
    Pat

  13. Hi Susan, sorry to bother you but the denim jacket link to Dillard’s is for a color called Chronicles. Your jacket appears to be darker than Chronicles. I like the color of your jacket. Is your jacket Chronicles? Thanks again!

  14. Love your site Susan! Would love to purchase a few of your tops etc. but I live in Scotland, do you ship to 2 UK?
    Kindest Regards
    Marion
