A Perfect Weekend

Don’t you love it when all of your plans come together and the weekend turns out to be a tremendous success? I wanted to do something special for Mr. Mickey because we are celebrating our twelve years of dating anniversary on March 7th. On Saturday, we attended a play, the Barter, stayed at The Martha, and had a superb dinner. The new musical Bright Star opened for the first time since Broadway at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia, this month. I am so glad we were able to see this play. It was a splendid performance, and the story was supremely uplifting.

The weather has turned chilly again, but the sky was a vivid blue, and the sun was shining as we made our way to the Saturday afternoon matinee performance. As I have often told you in the past, I dress for the weather, so I was celebrating the sunny skies when I chose to wear the knit Malibu Punch blazer I recently bought at Chico’s. The doorman goodnaturedly teased me that I would never get lost in a crowd.

The silk scarf is one of my all-time favorites. Even when the skies are gray, these colors can lift my spirits. The velvet smoking slippers are by Tommy Hilfiger via Belk. The tights are from White House|Black Market. (It was too cold to go without socks.) The black jeans are by NYDJ, and they are the Sheri Style. The white tank and the bright blazer are both from Chico’s.

While we were waiting in the lobby, these beautiful ladies came up to tell me they follow the blog. We visited like old friends for the rest of the day since they were seated in front of us. I was sad when it was time for us to go our separate ways. The best part of being a blogger is connecting with delightful people who share a passion for living life to the fullest and looking our best while we enjoy each day with a sense of optimism and laughter.

Inside the Martha is a small boutique called The Little Shop. I always look forward to seeing what fun things they have to offer. Soon, it was time to go downstairs to Sister’s American Grill for dinner. Daniel is their new chef, and he does an absolutely fabulous job! If you have not been there for a while, give them another try. We are already looking forward to the next play to stay at the Martha and enjoy another excellent dinner at Sister’s.

Happy Anniversary Mr. Mickey! Thank you for making these past twelve years the happiest of my life.

    1. Malibu punch looks great on you but I wish the had brought out the same pieces in turquoise too. That’s my colour favourite.

  7. Aw Susan, that is so sweet. That sounds like a great anniversary weekend. It’s so nice to see your deep appreciation for one another.

    1. LOL! My cat sent this yesterday — she galloped across the keyboard as I was typing it & apparently deleted the whole thing, but I didn’t realize she’d managed to step on the “send” key until now. So there you have it, Susan — unanimous congratulations from my house to yours!

  10. Congratulations to both of you, Susan! Glad your weekend was perfect — the two of you look pretty perfect, too.

  11. Susan,
You’re very pretty and always look nice, BUT…
it’s the same look every post. Wardrobe basics are one thing, a capsule wardrobe another, but frankly… you are wearing a uniform!

  14. Congratulations on your 12 years Anniversary together!! Looks like you had a wonderful time. I loved the pictures and the Martha Washington Hotel, simply gorgeous.

I want to ask you a question Susan, since I am a new follower. Although, I am looking at your videos nightly and reading as much as I can. You say you have built your company for the last 20 years. What is your company? I mean what is it that you do? I know you blog and are affiliates with other companies and do seminars and all which is wonderful. Wish I could! But somehow the company you have built has slipped through my reading or hearing.

But I looked at your picture when you were 58? Is that right? And you have come this far in about 5 years? Awesome!!

Well, I would appreciate an answer to my question if you can. I know you can answer everyone all the time and I understand.

But if you are coming to the Asheville area anytime soon, please let me know. My sister and I love you dearly and would love to meet you. By the way, did you come to Asheville about 2 weeks ago? My sister thinks she saw you in one of the stores.

Thanks for all your videos and tips you share. Love, Love, Love your clothes styles and colors.

  15. That’s so sweet. Yes, my late husband (7 months now) did that for me. The last 10 years of my life! How do I miss him!!!

  16. Congratulations to you and Mr. Mickey! You look fabulous as usual. I love your pick of clothes you choose. Just wanted to ask a question since I am a new follower. What is the business you started you said you have been working on for 20 years?

    Thanks Charlotte

  17. Congratulations to you and Mr. Mickey on twelve years of enjoying life together. Most of us appreciate your sharing how to put pieces together for different looks. I know I don’t want to spend time and money having a stuffed closet. I want pieces that can coordinate and give me great looks for the events in my life and daily activities. Your advice helps tremendously.

  18. congratulations on your anniversary! You are such a cute couple, love that you take time to dress up and go out for dates! Mr Mickey can certainly start a blog for older men who need to up their game!

  19. Hi Susan

Sorry for the late reading of your email.
“Happy Anniversary Mr. Mickey! Thank you for making these past twelve years the happiest of my life.”
This had me in tears – (a) that you have found such happiness in the latter part of your life and (b) that your life had not been as happy as prior to meeting Mr Mickey.
I hope your years in the future are just as wonderous and happy for you both.
Thank you for your blog, Susan.

    Deb.
